He recently delivered a baby, he said it was a girl and he was accused of transphobia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One such nurse relayed to the Tory peer that \u201ctrans rights supersede all other rights and concerns\u201d at the NHS, therefore making it \u201cimpossible\u201d to fulfil her mission to \u201cadvocate for the vulnerable\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Baroness Nicholson argued that the NHS policy of sorting patients \u201caccording to their presentation: the way they dress, and the name and pronouns they currently use\u201d rather than by biological sex has \u201cdiminished significantly\u201d the safety and privacy rights of female patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransgenderism, and I speak as a woman, has undermined that provision with the 2019 NHS guidance authorising self-selection of patient gender on arrival in hospitals, something neither enshrined in law nor backed by public demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet Parliament and our ministers have consistently declared that women both need and should have privacy, dignity and safety in their most vulnerable situations such as when sick or pregnant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also told the House of Lords of a case in which a 14-year-old girl turned down a cervical smear because the nurse who was to perform the test was \u201cvery clearly a natal male\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NHS &#8216;Over-Diagnosing&#8217; Transgender Children, Psychologists Warn <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TvXTz3dtY2\">https:\/\/t.co\/TvXTz3dtY2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1206211809071353857?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 15, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State&nbsp;at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Lord Syed Kamall responded to her testimony by saying that NHS England is currently reviewing the policy of housing transgender people in same-sex wards \u201cto ensure that it remains focused on privacy, safety and dignity for all patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NHS is committed to meeting its duties under the Equalities Act and as such needs to give due regard to both those whose gender identity is the same as their biological sex at birth as as well as those who are not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis means that the rights and needs of women and trans women are equal in law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The issue of placing transgender people who were born biologically male has also become an issue within the country\u2019s prison system.
