Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/GettyImages-973964720-640x335-1.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Tahra Ahmed, a prominent anti-lockdown activist, was jailed for 11 months on Friday following an antisemitic post on Facebook where she branded a deadly apartment fire as a \u201cJewish Sacrifice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tahra Ahmed, 51, was jailed on Friday at the Old Bailey for two posts on Facebook where she attempted to blame Jewish individuals for causing the Grenfell Tower&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2017\/06\/15\/prime-minister-orders-public-inquiry-london-tower-fire\/\">apartment block fire<\/a>&nbsp;that killed 72 in 2017.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The anti-lockdown activist was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/15\/activist-tahra-ahmed-convicted-after-calling-london-high-rise-fire-that-killed-72-jewish-sacrifice\/\">initially convicted<\/a> by a jury in January of&nbsp;\u201cinciting racial hatred\u201d against Jewish people on two separate occasions on Facebook, and was sentenced this week to 11 months in prison by Judge&nbsp;Mark Dennis QC, with the defendant reportedly looking \u201cin shock\u201d after hearing the decision,&nbsp;<em>The Times&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/anti-lockdown-activist-tahra-ahmed-jailed-over-facebook-post-blaming-jews-for-grenfell-fire-0nm0m0kwh\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Dennis branded Ahmed\u2019s posts as \u201cvenom\u201d and suggested they were a deliberate attempt to \u201cstir up hatred towards Jews in general,\u201d at a time when there was \u201ca question as to who was to blame for the tragedy and for all those deaths\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The judge also suggested that Ahmed had deliberately attempted to capitalise on the tragedy to spread her anti-Jewish agenda saying she \u201cknew full well\u201d what she was doing and \u201cits likely effect\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In one post, Ahmed said that the tower block inferno was a \u201cJewish sacrifice\u201d and in the second, she made the outlandish claim that \u201cJews have always been the ones behind ritual torture, crucifixion and murder of children, especially young boys, as a way of atoning for their sins in order to be allowed back into Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Activist Tahra Ahmed Convicted After Calling London High Rise Fire That Killed 72 a \u2019Jewish Sacrifice\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ec6iksqaIB\">https:\/\/t.co\/Ec6iksqaIB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1482366971945500673?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 15, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ahmed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/15\/activist-tahra-ahmed-convicted-after-calling-london-high-rise-fire-that-killed-72-jewish-sacrifice\/\">previously maintained<\/a> her comments were not antisemitic but rather political in nature, attempting to justify the comments by saying:&nbsp;\u201cJewish people \u2014 this is a particular group I call them the cabal, I call them Talmudic, I call them zionists. \u2026 There is the Talmud which says about sacrificing children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Dennis used Ahmed\u2019s courtroom behaviour to highlight that she hadn\u2019t shown genuine remorse for her crimes, and therefore her offences warranted a harsh sentence. Ahmed had also told her supporters before the verdict that she would not express regret and plead guilty to the charges as she believes that she is \u201cnot guilty of intention to incite racial hatred\u201d, and that she stands for \u201ctruth\u201d and \u201cfreedom of speech, expression, belief\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed\u2019s courtroom character reference from her sister was also not particularly well received by Judge Dennis, who described it as \u201cvery unfortunate\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>In her testimony, Ahmed\u2019s sister suggested that there \u201cseems to be a special law which protects the Jewish people\u201d and there is \u201cone rule for them, another rule for us. Is that fair?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As the activist was being led out the courtroom by authorities after she received her sentence, Ahmed reportedly told the courtroom: \u201cLove you, love wins\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Four Charged in Grenfell Tower Fraud Investigation, Suspects Allegedly Scammed \u00a325k-\u00a3100k <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ajXsXgVDkg\">https:\/\/t.co\/ajXsXgVDkg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1005371874598162432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 9, 2018<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Britain, unlike the United States, does not have a First Amendment and individuals like Ahmed can be prosecuted for their speech under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/1986\/64\/part\/III\/crossheading\/acts-intended-or-likely-to-stir-up-racial-hatred\">Public Order Act<\/a> of 1986.<\/p>\n<p>The Adam Smith Insitute, a prominent neoliberal British think tank, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2020\/11\/24\/think-tank-boris-should-pass-first-amendment-law\/\">previously<\/a> called for Britain to enact a free speech law as they claim that Britain \u201chas placed public discourse in the hands of the easily offended\u201d and that citizens \u201cno longer have freedom of speech\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The freedom of speech debate gained national attention in October of 2020 when the police <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2020\/10\/10\/police-threaten-podcaster-because-his-guest-said-something-racist\/\">investigated<\/a> Darren Grimes, a young podcaster, over comments his guest, historian David Starkey, made on his YouTube channel. Grimes was eventually exonerated amid public outcry, but a record of him allegedly committing a \u201cnon-crime hate incident\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10331993\/EXCLUSIVE-Campaigners-call-120-000-hate-incidents-deleted.html\">remains<\/a>&nbsp;on his permanent police record, which could show up on background checks in the future.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently no government plans to enshrine freedom of speech in British law, and while the government has suggested they will bring in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10334651\/Police-probing-hate-crime-claims-need-protect-free-speech-says-Priti-Patel.html\">changes<\/a> to remove the non-crime hate incidents, there has not been a proposed timeline as to when this will happen.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What Free Speech?
