Overall, Whitmer\u2019s lead is less than one percent, bringing the race to a statistical tie, with 44.3 percent of likely voters supporting her, compared to 43.7 percent for Craig.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Blueprint Polling survey&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/blueprintpolling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/BPP-Michigan-Survey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">polled<\/a>&nbsp;632 Michigan voters from February 1-4.<\/p>\n<p>The difference between Craig and Whitmer is evidenced by their response to the Canadian Freedom Convoy protesting onerous vaccine mandates and public health regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Whitmer&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10503107\/Michigan-Governor-Gretchen-Whitmer-calls-Freedom-Convoy-illegal-blockade.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;the protesters are engaging in an \u201cillegal blockade\u201d and that they \u201cdo not have a right to illegally block these international borders where we have so much commerce.\u201d Michigan\u2019s governor even called on the Canadian government to \u201cdo whatever it takes\u201d to end the protests.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>On the other hand, Craig stood in solidarity with the protesters. \u201cI stand with the truckers. I support all working people who are standing up for personal freedom,\u201d Craig&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2022\/02\/11\/republican-james-craig-supports-truckers-blockade-michigan-governors-race\/6751776001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cWhat we are seeing is a tremendous lack of leadership from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President Joe Biden and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2022\/02\/11\/republican-james-craig-supports-truckers-blockade-michigan-governors-race\/6751776001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">added<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I reject big government socialism, and I reject the notion that working people standing up for freedom are somehow the problem. We need real leadership. President Biden, who often touts his blue-collar bonafides, should stand up for working people and call out Prime Minister Trudeau for his arrogance and failure to lead.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition to a potential gubernatorial match-up, the poll also asked voters about a 2024 presidential rematch between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. Biden carried Michigan by less than three percentage points in the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>After more than one year of Biden\u2019s presidency, Trump is polling ahead of Biden among Michigan voters. Trump\u2019s support is at 40.4 percent compared to Biden\u2019s 38.2 percent. However, 13.4 percent of respondents remain undecided, and eight percent said they would support a third-party candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The poll also found that Biden\u2019s grip on the black vote loosened, with more than one-third of black voters undecided or supporting a third-party candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The poll has a margin of error of +\/- 3.9 percent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican candidate for Michigan governor James Craig leads Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) by eight points among independents in a race that is essentially tied, according to a new\u00a0poll.
