Simanskis died days later from her injuries after having been on life support.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Leon-Olluas was arrested in the Atlanta, Georgia, metro area where he was booked in Fulton County Jail and will be extradited to Wake County to face charges in Simanskis\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Simanskis leaves behind two children, Eric and Emily, as well as her husband, Ed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Our collective heart is broken <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WRAL?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WRAL<\/a> with the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Erin Simanskis. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xa31OasYOM\">pic.twitter.com\/xa31OasYOM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 WRALKenSmith (@KenSmithWRAL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenSmithWRAL\/status\/1486419929603756043?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 26, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Wake County has been a sanctuary jurisdiction since at least 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/wake-mecklenburg-sheriffs-balk-at-renewed-effort-to-force-them-to-cooperate-with-ice\/19566417\/\">refusing<\/a> to cooperate with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and instead shielding criminal illegal aliens from arrest and deportation.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, across the state of North Carolina, sheriffs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/11\/03\/north-carolina-sanctuary-cities-500\/\">refused<\/a> to turn over to ICE agents more than 500 criminal illegal aliens \u2014 protecting them from federal immigration law.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear if President Joe Biden\u2019s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would consider Leon-Olluas a priority for deportation if convicted of killing&nbsp;Simanskis. In a recent case,&nbsp;19-year-old Adrienne Sophia Exum was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/01\/biden-helps-illegal-alien-accused-of-killing-teen-girl-evade-deportation\/\">hit<\/a> and killed by an illegal alien in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Exum\u2019s mother recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/02\/angel-mom-whose-daughter-was-killed-by-illegal-alien-regrets-supporting-biden-i-feel-so-disappointed-right-now\/\">revealed<\/a> that her daughter\u2019s killer is not considered a priority for deportation by DHS and thus may not be deported from the U.S.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John Binder is a reporter for Breitbart<\/em><em> New<\/em><em>s.<\/em><em> Email him at jbinder@breitbart.com.
