Just 41 percent approve of how he&#8217;s handling his job, matching his <em>FiveThirtyEight<\/em> polling average, while 58 percent disapprove.<\/p>\n<p>When CNN pressed respondents who disapprove of Biden to name any action by the president of which they approve, a majority, 56 percent, couldn&#8217;t name a single thing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s not Donald Trump. That&#8217;s pretty much it,&#8221; one respondent said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I really like his new cat,&#8221; said someone else.<\/p>\n<p>Collinson wrote that many respondents&#8217; despondence comes from Biden&#8217;s self-inflicted wounds. Some Americans see the president&#8217;s enormous social spending plan as &#8220;a betrayal of the moderate image he had cultivated on the campaign trail,&#8221; while &#8220;the pandemic&#8217;s refusal to loosen its grip over the first year of his presidency hammered his reputation for competence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And Biden&#8217;s botched U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, Collinson said, was &#8220;a parable of presidential incompetence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This foul national mood is primarily a disaster in the making for Democrats in November&#8217;s midterm elections,&#8221; Collinson declared.<\/p>\n<p>The CNN poll is far from the first to find abysmal polling numbers for Biden ahead of November&#8217;s midterm elections.
