Joe Manchin (D-WV) said inflation is \u201ca basic threat\u201d and that the Federal Reserve \u201ccan\u2019t be pussyfooting around like they\u2019ve been.\u201d And now isn\u2019t the time for more spending.<\/p>\n<p>Manchin said, [relevant remarks begin around 54:50] \u201cI\u2019ve been ringing the alarm bell forever \u2014 I mean, for the last year about inflation. Nobody\u2019s been listening. Now, we\u2019re seeing a basic threat. It\u2019s a 7.5% tax on everybody, on every product you buy. It\u2019s just unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>He added, \u201cSo, it\u2019s time for the Federal Reserve to tackle the issue head-on. They can\u2019t be pussyfooting around like they\u2019ve been.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Manchin further stated that increasing interest rates is \u201cthe only way they\u2019ve ever been able to control it. I mean, you\u2019ve got to stomp it down. I mean, if you don\u2019t, it\u2019s going to continue to run. 7.5%, that\u2019s the highest in four decades, 40 years, it\u2019s just unbelievable. And we\u2019re not doing anything about it. We\u2019re just sitting back there and watching it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manchin also addressed spending, saying, \u201c[N]ow is not a time to be throwing caution to the wind and putting more trillions of dollars out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He concluded, \u201cNow is the time not to put more fuel on the fire.
