Elaine Luria\u2019s husband also trades millions of dollars worth of publicly traded stocks, such as Facebook, Netflix, and NVIDIA, a multinational technology company. He also owns QuantumScape and Tesla stock.<\/p>\n<p>Luria was questioned by Punchbowl News why she <a href=\"https:\/\/email.punchbowl.news\/t\/ViewEmail\/t\/08B9F6CABF6820E72540EF23F30FEDED\/285B195D379BF34946778398EADC2510?alternativeLink=False\">opposed<\/a> a ban on stock trading:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Max:&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI saw Speaker Pelosi is publicly, is going to back a ban on stock trading among members. I was curious what your thoughts were on this?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Luria:&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cSo my thoughts on it, you know, I think this whole concept is bullshit. Because I think that, why would you assume that members of Congress are going to be inherently bad or corrupt? We already have the STOCK Act that requires people to report stock trades. Why would you assume \u2013 I mean, the people that you\u2019re electing to represent you, it makes no sense that you\u2019re going to automatically assume that they\u2019re going to use their position for some nefarious means or to benefit themselves. So I\u2019m very strongly opposed to any legislation like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Luria\u2019s answer of \u201cbullshit\u201d was slammed by the&nbsp;Congressional Leadership Fund press secretary Cally Perkins.&nbsp;\u201cLike so many on the left,&nbsp;Elaine Luria has one set of rules for politicians like herself and another for everyone else,\u201d she said. \u201cLuria refuses to ban insider trading for Members of Congress,&nbsp;so that she can continue lining her pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>National Republican Congressional Committee\u2019s&nbsp;Spokesman Mike Berg also sounded off against Axne\u2019s hypocritical position on stock trading. \u201cCindy Axne is in Congress to help her bank account, not her constituents. Axne is too crooked to represent Iowa,\u201d&nbsp;he said.<\/p>\n<p>The two Democrats\u2019 opposition to banning congressional stock trades comes as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/10\/nancy-pelosi-places-condition-banning-congressional-stock-trades-third-branch-govt\/\">has supported<\/a> the measure with a caveat: the judiciary branch should also be banned from trading stocks.<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi\u2019s comments follow a pivot in opposing stock trading. In December, Pelosi defended congressional stock trading as participation in a \u201cfree market economy.\u201d Soon after her defense, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR)&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/10\/democrat-sen-jeff-merkley-admits-pelosis-stock-trading-sways-her-legislative-judgment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">slammed<\/a>&nbsp;Pelosi\u2019s stock trading activity that allegedly sways her legislative judgment. Pelosi and her husband&nbsp;<a title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/07\/08\/report-pelosis-husband-secured-5-3-million-from-alphabet-options\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">raked<\/a>&nbsp;in $4.8 million dollars on tech options in July, though the speaker denies she owns any of the stocks.<\/p>\n<p>A ban on lawmakers from trading stocks is very popular among Americans.&nbsp;Seventy-six percent of voters&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/news\/588630-76-percent-of-voters-support-banning-lawmakers-from-trading-stocks-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">believe<\/a>&nbsp;lawmakers and their spouses have an \u201cunfair advantage\u201d trading stocks. The&nbsp;<em>Washington Post\u2019s<\/em>&nbsp;editorial board&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/21\/wapo-editorial-board-endorses-ban-lawmakers-trading-stocks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endorsed<\/a>&nbsp;banning congressional members from trading individual stocks.
