Establishment state Republican senators have\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news-leader.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/02\/08\/missouri-senate-filibuster-keeps-redistricting-map-issue-unresolved-congressional-republican-vote\/6693229001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filibustered<\/a>\u00a0the GOP favorable maps since Tuesday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, it is the Missouri Senate\u2019s women who restore common sense. It\u2019s about time we stop tip toeing around a few men\u2019s fragile egos,\u201d Jones tweeted support for state Sen. Sandy Crawford\u2019s (R) desire to block her party from favorably drawing redistricted maps.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have proposed drawing a 7-1 favorable map for the GOP, while establishment Republicans would prefer to draw favorable 6-2 maps that would benefit Democrats.\u00a0Crawford\u2019s excuse for blocking her fellow Republicans is that the 7-1 map would hurt rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoting for a 7-1 map doesn\u2019t get you to heaven,\u201d\u00a0Crawford\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/K_Schallhorn\/status\/1491526599417602054?s=20&amp;t=Y9xzxP7xiEgizgnMhZt8Qg\">said<\/a>\u00a0on the Senate floor:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Now Sen. Sandy Crawford is on the floor. She said she got an email saying she&#8217;d go to hell for not voting for a 7-1 map. &#8220;Voting for a 7-1 map doesn&#8217;t get you to heaven.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She said Republicans are talking about strong 6-2 maps, not a 7-1 that would hurt rural communities. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/moleg?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#moleg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kaitlyn Schallhorn (@K_Schallhorn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/K_Schallhorn\/status\/1491526599417602054?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 9, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Crawford is not the only Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/08\/redistricting-trend-establishment-republicans-in-missouri-are-desperate-to-cave-to-nancy-pelosi\/\">blocking<\/a> the Republican\u2019s 7-1 map.\u00a0\u201cFourteen Republicans, including Senate leadership, joined 10 Democrats in rejecting the proposal, with members of the Conservative Caucus and Sen. Paul Wieland, R-Imperial, voting in favor,\u201d according to the Missouri Independent.<\/p>\n<p>The establishment media has\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1491786741581107205?s=20&amp;t=gK8bdza4mjBFFyeFhlT7tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">picked up<\/a>\u00a0on the Republican\u2019s knock-kneed effort to help Pelosi maintain the gavel. \u201cNotable jab from MO Gov. Mike Parson\u2019s (R) communications director against a group of hard-line conservative state senators filibustering in favor of a 7R-1D gerrymander (instead of the 6R-2D status quo map that the state House passed),\u201d David Wasserman, senior editor of the Cook Political Report, tweeted.<\/p>\n<p>In December, the\u00a0<em>New York Magazine\u00a0<\/em><a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2021\/12\/democrats-are-doing-weirdly-well-in-redistricting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that Democrats were doing \u201cweirdly well\u201d in nationwide redistricting battles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/04\/redistricting-expert-republicans-losing-to-democrats-nationwide-redistricting-battle\/\">echoing<\/a>\u00a0Wasserman\u2019s analysis that Democrats have\u00a0taken\u00a0a two-to-three seat advantage in the redistricting battle, where Republicans were expected to dominate.<\/p>\n<p>Establishment Republicans in Missouri may be influenced by\u00a0Barack Obama\u2019s former attorney general, Eric Holder, who has successfully\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/05\/republicans-defeated-eric-holders-nationwide-gerrymandering-plot\/\">defeated<\/a>\u00a0Republican state lawmakers in the court system. According to the\u00a0<em>Wall Street Journal,\u00a0<\/em>Holder\u2019s success is a result of his \u201csue to blue\u201d strategy, which he\u00a0implemented\u00a0after Obama took devastating losses in the 2010 redistricting cycle.
