Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pope-denounces-poverty-640x335-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">ROME \u2014 Pope Francis denounced the \u201cpathologies\u201d of individualism and indifference Thursday in his message for the World Day of the Sick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis time of pandemic is teaching us to look at disease as a global phenomenon and not just an individual one,\u201d the pontiff said in a video <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/it\/messages\/pont-messages\/2022\/documents\/20220210-videomessaggio-30giornatamalato.html\">message<\/a>, \u201cand invites us to reflect on other types of \u2018pathologies\u2019 that threaten humanity and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIndividualism and indifference to the other are forms of selfishness that are unfortunately amplified in the society of consumerist well-being and economic liberalism,\u201d he said, \u201cand the consequent inequalities are also found in the health field, where some enjoy the so-called \u2018excellence\u2019 and many others find it difficult to access basic care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To heal the social \u201cvirus\u201d of inequality, \u201cthe antidote is the culture of fraternity, founded on the awareness that we are all equal as human persons, all equal, children of one Father,\u201d Francis added.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Francis has decried the evils of \u201cneo-liberalism.\u201d Last February, the pope blamed \u201cneo-liberal capitalism\u201d and deregulation of markets as causes of human trafficking despite data that suggest the opposite is true.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHuman trafficking finds fertile ground in the approach of neo-liberal capitalism, in the deregulation of markets aimed at maximizing without ethical limits, without social limits, without environmental limits,\u201d the pontiff declared in a video-<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/messages\/pont-messages\/2021\/documents\/papa-francesco_20210208_videomessaggio-contro-trattapersone.html\">message<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Still no word on when the Pope plans to tear down his massive Vatican Wall. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/81DnPGdpXA\">https:\/\/t.co\/81DnPGdpXA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1407037899607097344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf this logic is followed, there is only the calculation of advantages and disadvantages,\u201d Francis claimed. \u201cChoices are not made on the basis of ethical criteria, but by pandering to dominant interests, often cleverly obscured by a humanitarian or ecological veneer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While placing the blame for human trafficking on \u201cneo-liberal capitalism\u201d and market deregulation may fit nicely with the pope\u2019s worldview, it does not square with the facts.<\/p>\n<p>A 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/best-countries\/slideshows\/5-of-the-worst-countries-for-human-trafficking?slide=6\">analysis<\/a> by&nbsp;<em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em>&nbsp;noted that the five countries with the worst record for human trafficking were all governed by&nbsp;<em>authoritarian<\/em>&nbsp;regimes with highly regulated markets and little respect for human rights. None of the worst offenders are free market economies.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>In first place was Russia, which had established bilateral agreements with North Korea allowing for labor camps and \u201cslave-like conditions\u201d for workers within Russian borders.&nbsp;<em>U.S. News<\/em>&nbsp;reported that some 20,000 workers from North Korea are sent to Russia each year.<\/p>\n<p>China was the second-worst offender because of its widespread use of human trafficking for state-sponsored forced labor as well as extensive sex trafficking to provide Chinese men with wives. Years of sex-selective <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2020\/11\/16\/report-china-using-eugenic-abortions-to-improve-the-quality-of-the-population\/\">abortions<\/a> have resulted in an estimated 33 to 37 million more males living in China than females, an imbalance that is fueling sex trafficking from multiple nations into China for forced marriage or commercial sexual exploitation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Human trafficking is violence!
