Economists had projected the index would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/us-inflation-consumer-price-index-january-2022-11644452274?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">increase<\/a> to around 7.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The president issued a statement Thursday morning, highlighting his priorities and trying to focus on his administration\u2019s \u201chistoric success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy two top economic priorities have been to create a growing economy with more good-paying jobs, and to lower the prices Americans have faced from the global problem of inflation related to the pandemic,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/07\/joe-biden-inflation-jobs-report-supreme-court-vaccine-mandate\/\">Biden<\/a> said. \u201cWe have seen historic success on the first priority, with the greatest year of job growth in history, Americans finding better jobs, better wages, and better benefits, along with the fastest economic growth in decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president also tried to reassure Americans that the challenge of inflation has a light at the end of the tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn higher prices, we have been using every tool at our disposal, and while today is a reminder that Americans\u2019 budgets are being stretched in ways that create real stress at the kitchen table, there are also signs that we will make it through this challenge,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7370259\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7370259\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 DECEMBER 06: U.S. President Joe Biden pauses to answer a question before leaving the East Room after talking about the Build Back Better legislation\u2019s new rules around prescription drug prices at the White House on December 06, 2021 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Biden continued on to cite \u201cforecasters\u201d who \u201ccontinue to project inflation easing substantially by the end of 2022.\u201d He promised that the administration has an \u201call hands on deck\u201d motto with regards to rising prices. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/10\/politics\/biden-inflation-peak\/index.html\">(RELATED:&nbsp;Biden To Meet With CEOs Of Retailers As Inflation, Supply Chain Issues Hit Country During Holiday-Shopping Season)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFortunately we saw positive real wage growth last month, and moderation in auto prices, which have made up about a quarter of headline inflation over the last year,\u201d Biden said in the statement. \u201cWe separately saw good news with new unemployment claims continuing to decline. That\u2019s a sign of the real progress we\u2019ve made in getting Americans back to work over the last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy administration will continue to be all hands on deck to win this fight,\u201d the president vowed. \u201cWe will continue to rebuild our infrastructure and manufacturing, so we can make more in America and strengthen our supply chains here at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s statement marks a quiet recognition of the fact that inflation <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/24\/yougov-yahoo-poll-75-percent-americans-inflation-shortage-affect-personally-joe-biden\/\">continues<\/a> to rise. In December, the president said he believed&nbsp;the country was at the \u201cpeak\u201d of its inflation crisis, describing the issue as \u201ca real bump in the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does affect families when you walk into a grocery store and you\u2019re paying more for whatever you\u2019re purchasing \u2013 it matters,\u201d Biden said at the time. \u201cIt matters to people when you\u2019re paying more for gas, although in some states we\u2019ve got the price down below three bucks a gallon, but the point is it\u2019s not gone down quickly enough.
