Despite the measure, Johnson went on to insist that he and his colleague, Rishi Sunak, were \u201cThatcherites\u201d and \u201ctax-cutting Conservatives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Further casting doubt on the move, the government has since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/03\/socialist-sunak-roasted-for-raising-taxes-and-cash-giveaways\/\">announced billions of new spending in government giveaway<\/a>s, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/01\/johnson-announces-ukraine-cash-giveaway-after-denying-britons-tax-cut\/\">hundreds of millions on getting involved in Ukraine<\/a>. The tax-and-spend policy has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/17539721\/rishi-sunak-bills-bailout-crafty-sleight-of-hand\/\">negatively compared<\/a> to the worst excesses of the left-wing Gordon Brown era of government.<\/p>\n<p>Now, according to an economic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niesr.ac.uk\/publications\/powering-down-not-levelling-up?type=uk-economic-outlook\">report<\/a> titled \u201cPowering Down, Not Levelling Up\u201d \u2014 a reference to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/uks-embattled-johnson-seeks-reset-with-major-economic-plan\/\">another<\/a> recent government scheme \u2014 the Johnson administration has been putting the economic cart before the horse, while not adequately taking into account inflation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe government has chosen to tighten primarily through fiscal policy, leaving monetary policy lagging the inflation cycle,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niesr.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/UK-Economic-Outlook-Winter-2022.pdf\">reads<\/a> the report from the think tank headed up by Professor Jagjit S. Chadha. \u201cThis policy sequencing is the wrong way around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need flexibility to deal with economic not political shocks and what we have witnessed is no way to run fiscal policy,\u201d the publication also notes regarding the incoming payroll tax increase.<\/p>\n<p>This alleged failure, according to the paper, will increase the number of destitute households in the UK by one million, with the combined power of the payroll tax rise as well as rising inflation expected by the researchers to bump overall UK destitution by 30 per cent. The paper defines a destitute household as one \u201cwhere they lack&nbsp;resources to purchase basic necessities\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the paper\u2019s answer seems to be a return to the super-high spending era of the early pandemic, when chancellor Sunak \u2018opened the taps\u2019 of government spending, underwriting the lockdowns with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/01\/23\/soaring-taxes-on-their-way-to-pay-for-britains-mammoth-corona-debt\/\">massive amounts of borrowed money that will be paid back for decades to come<\/a>. The&nbsp;National Institute of Economic and Social Research paper said the government should simply spend more money while not raising taxes.<\/p>\n<p>They said: \u201c\u2026there ought to be significant pressure on the Chancellor of the Exchequer both to delay the rise in National Insurance contributions scheduled in April and to increase spending plans\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The paper argued, it should be left to monetary policy \u2014 things like the manipulation of interest rates \u2014 to solve the issue of price stability.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Not-So Conservative: Boris Plows Ahead with Massive Tax Hikes Despite Soaring Cost of Living<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xkVJd3cffU\">https:\/\/t.co\/xkVJd3cffU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1487802789325586432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 30, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Initially announced in September 2021, the Conservative hiking of payroll tax in the UK was confirmed late last month as a response to the expenses and debt racked up over the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cost has been enormous \u2014 well over \u00a3400 billion,\u201d an opinion piece by Boris Johnson and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak discussing the increase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/30\/not-so-conservative-boris-plows-ahead-with-massive-tax-hikes-despite-soaring-cost-of-living\/\">read<\/a>. \u201cWe have been able to afford it because the Conservative government is careful with the nation\u2019s finances.
