Both&nbsp;South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) and Rapid City\u2019s&nbsp;Monument Health hospital are correcting the record, as the&nbsp;Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications at Monument Health made it clear that CNN inaccurately summarized the story, emphasizing that the hospital has actually seen \u201csteady decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations in recent weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>In the February 8, 2022 report, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/08\/us\/rapid-city-south-dakota-covid-hospital\/index.html\">titled<\/a> \u201cOmicron may be on the decline, but this South Dakota hospital is still feeling its peak,\u201d CNN attempts to attribute the alleged rise to \u201clow vaccination rates and a lack of coronavirus restrictions.\u201d Noem\u2019s office also noted that CNN \u201cshamed attendees of the Black Hills Stock Show and violated HIPPA by improperly including footage of patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth Dakotans deserve the facts so that they can make the best decisions for themselves and their loved-ones. Unfortunately, CNN\u2019s claims about COVID-19 in Pennington County were not factual,\u201d Noem <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sd.gov\/newsitem.aspx?id=28917\">said<\/a> in a statement, attributing the CNN piece as a \u201cpolitical hit job\u201d which \u201cignored the mountains of factual data that we sent to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are demanding a correction,\u201d she said, assuring that they are \u201cworking together to take care of people who get sick with COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe will not allow divisive out-of-state media outlets to get in the way of the partnerships between the State of South Dakota and our excellent hospital systems,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Robin Zebroski, Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Communications at Monument Health, released a statement debunking CNN\u2019s story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA six-hour visit by CNN was summarized inaccurately in the story referenced. The quotes pulled were taken out of context to support a narrative that simply is not true,\u201d Zebroski said, noting the hospital has \u201cseen a steady decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations in recent weeks, and the overall testing positivity rate has gone down as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly support Governor Noem and are disappointed by the CNN report,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, CNN reported that \u201cRapid City is the seat of Pennington County\u201d has \u201cthe highest number of active cases in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith a population of about 114,000, the county had 3,744 active Covid-19 cases Tuesday, and almost 31% of weekly tests reported were positive for the virus, according to the state\u2019s database,\u201d CNN reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--epic ad--desktop\">\n<p>&nbsp;Noem\u2019s office, however, noted that coronavirus hospitalizations in Pennington County \u201cpeaked three weeks ago, on January 18, 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince then, they have declined by 32 percent,\u201d her office said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Additionally,&nbsp;Joan Adam, Interim Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Health, said CNN did not reach out to the agency for the story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Health and the Governor\u2019s Office provided data to be included in their story, but CNN ignored it,\u201d Adam said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor Noem and the Department of Health will continue to work with our hospital systems to take care of people and ensure that up-to-date data is available to all South Dakotans.
