Adams said that \u201clegal consultation\u201d was required before any medals could be presented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cEveryone is doing absolutely everything that the situation can be resolved as soon as possible,\u201d Adams <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/olympics\/story\/_\/id\/33249419\/team-figure-skating-medal-ceremony-beijing-olympics-delayed-legal-issue\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>, though he cautioned, \u201cas you know, legal issues can sometimes drag on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It has now emerged that 15-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva reportedly tested positive for a banned substance. According to Russian media, the substance is trimetazidine, used to treat chest pain, and was found in a sample collected two months prior to the Olympics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe drug trimetazidine does not help an athlete in any way,\u201d Russian journalist Vasily Konov <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/olympics\/story\/_\/id\/33254263\/russian-figure-skater-kamila-valieva-tested-positive-banned-drug-according-reports\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span> on social media, according to ESPN. \u201cAt all. It was found in one single sample in December. A minuscule amount. Nothing in her samples before or since.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere is no doping in the conventional sense,\u201d Konov continued. \u201cNo! This cardiac drug has no impact on \u2026 performance. Now leave Kamila in peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/lifestyle\/sports\/russian-paper-says-figure-skater-valieva-tested-positive-angina-drug-2022-02-09\/?taid=62040a86a5425c000137a619&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=twitter\"><span>Reuters<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cTrimetazidine is listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency\u2019s (WADA) list of metabolic modulators and is prohibited both in and out of competition.\u201d It is used in order to treat angina, which causes severe pain in the chest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The United States finished second in the event, followed by the team from Japan. Due to Valieva\u2019s age, she is considered a \u201cprotected person\u201d by the World Anti-Doping Agency, meaning the agency is not required to release the name of the individual who tested positive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ITA is aware of the various reports circulating regarding the postponed medal ceremony for the figure skating team event at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022,\u201d the International Testing Agency (ITA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidethegames.biz\/articles\/1119043\/valieva-legal-problem-beijing-2022\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cAny announcement connected to these events would always be publicly issued on the ITA\u2019s website and not commented on otherwise.&nbsp;No such announcement has been published to date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>On Tuesday, American figure skater Nathan Chen recorded the highest score in the history of the short program, getting a score of 113.97 from the judges. Chen landed a triple axel and two quadruple jumps in his routine, vaulting the American to the top of the leaderboard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI was just elated,\u201d Chen <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/usa-nathan-chen-world-record-olympics\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cAt the last Olympics, both of the short programs didn\u2019t go the way I wanted. To finally get an opportunity to skate the programs I wanted feels really good.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Chen\u2019s performance was a massive rebound from his disastrous result at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, where he was the favorite to win the gold medal, but finished in fifth place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI think that looking back in 2018, all I could think about was skating and not being able to, obviously, skate well.
