The two turned the act into a podcast titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/the-handoff\/id1571581184\">The Handoff<\/a>,\u201d which went on hiatus when the network fired Cuomo last December.<\/p>\n<p>Lemon cried for the cameras when he announced that Cuomo had tested positive for COVID-19 in 2020. \u201cI\u2019m sorry. I said I wasn\u2019t going to do this. J****!\u201d Lemon said, as he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JTVjoczqZ1o\">dabbed tears away<\/a> from his eyes.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>But Lemon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cnn-guest-i-would-be-a-little-nervous-if-i-was-at-cnn\">like many current CNN employees<\/a>, had a visceral attachment to recently departed CNN president Jeff Zucker, whom he credited with changing his life. \u201cHe is the reason that you have a gay black man with two hours of primetime. A show with my name on it. The only anchor of color in primetime and cable news. Think about that,\u201d Lemon said as he gave his boss an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/don-lemon-praises-jeff-zucker-we-lost-the-man-who-was-the-backbone-the-glue-and-the-spirit-of-this-company\">emotional send-off<\/a> last Friday. \u201cYou want to talk about diversity? CNN reportedly fired its top-rated host for advising his brother, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-fall-of-andrew-cuomo-how-an-empire-built-on-fear-came-crashing-down\">then-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo<\/a>, about how to beat back multiple allegations of sexual harassment to a greater extent than he had admitted, as well as allegedly new claims that Chris Cuomo had sexually harassed a woman at another network.<\/p>\n<p>Media reports have said that Cuomo\u2019s legal team threatened to expose Zucker\u2019s undisclosed romantic relationship with CNN executive vice president Allison Gollust, who had served as Andrew Cuomo\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/joined-at-the-hip-jeff-zuckers-lover-was-former-comms-director-for-andrew-cuomo\">communications director<\/a>. Rolling Stone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-news\/jeff-zucker-cnn-investigation-affair-cuomo-1294608\/\">reported<\/a> that sources had information that \u201cZucker and Gollust were advising the governor at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in ways not dissimilar to what led to Chris Cuomo\u2019s dismissal.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>CNN\u2019s parent company, AT&amp;T, opened negotiations to pay Cuomo, whom the network fired last December, $9 million to keep the lawsuit out of the courtroom, the New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/02\/03\/what-jeff-zuckers-resignation-could-mean-for-chris-cuomos-potential-cnn-payout\/\">reported<\/a> last week.
