Chip Roy and seven fellow GOP House members introduced a bill on Tuesday that would allow military service members discharged for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine to be reinstated to service.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/roy.house.gov\/sites\/roy.house.gov\/files\/Service%20Restoration%20Act_bill%20text%20%28.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Service Restoration Act<\/a> is designed to protect Armed Forces personnel from vaccine mandates and expunge any adverse action due to non-compliance with the Biden administration\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of President Biden\u2019s power-hungry, anti-science COVID-19 vaccine mandate, hundreds of valuable American service members are being forced out of our military, taking with them years of subject-matter expertise, careers of selfless sacrifice, and lifelong dreams of military service. This is strategically foolish, profoundly unamerican, and completely unacceptable,\u201d Roy said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/roy.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-roy-leads-legislation-protect-service-members-termination-over-biden-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI introduced the Service Restoration Act to ensure that the brave men and women of our armed forces are not fired over this wrong-headed mandate \u2014 whether it be for a medical, religious, conscientious or any reason \u2014 and that those already dismissed are able to get back to honorably serving their country with their time of service and their records rightfully restored,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to Roy\u2019s statement, the act aims to accomplish four goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Prohibits Federal funds from being used to require a member of the Armed Forces to receive the COVID-19 vaccine;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Requires the Secretary to reinstate members of the Armed Force who wish to return to duty at the same rank;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Requires the Secretary to still count the service members\u2019 time separated from the military towards their retirement benefits;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Requires the Secretary to expunge from the service members\u2019 record any adverse action due to refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bill\u2019s co-sponsors include Reps. Marjorie Taylor Green (GA), Michael Cloud (TX), Bill Posey (FL), Matt Rosendale (MT), Louie Gohmert (TX), Van Taylor (TX), and Bob Good (VA).<\/p>\n<p>The bill\u2019s introduction comes as the military has increasingly discharged members who have refused to comply with the Biden administration\u2019s vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<p>Roy\u2019s legislation also comes as his state\u2019s Republican governor, Greg Abbott, filed a preliminary injunction on Tuesday to urge the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to protect the state\u2019s National Guard members from the Biden Administration\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governor of Texas does not take orders from the President of the United States,\u201d Abbott said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden must be held accountable for his unconscionable willingness to hollow out the Texas National Guard with another illegal vaccine mandate. The total&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/US-Navy-COVID-19-Updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">includes<\/a>&nbsp;\u201c5,035 active component and 2,960 Ready Reserve service members.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Among the first 45 Navy service members released included 23 Active Component Sailors, along with 22 Entry Level Separations (ELS).
