California yesterday changed their guidance. Randi Weingarten \u2014 teachers union \u2014 is vocally asking for the White House and the CDC to weigh in. So when are we going to hear from the CDC about updating the guidance on masks?\u201d Heinrich asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ll have to ask the CDC. The CDC moves at the pace of data and science,\u201d Psaki replied. She then pivoted to state that President Joe Biden\u2019s administration had always had as its primary goal to keep in place whatever guidance allowed schools to remain open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want kids to be in school. Ninety-eight percent of schools are open. That\u2019s a very \u2014\u201d Psaki continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo \u2014\u201d Heinrich cut in, but Psaki pushed back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me finish. That\u2019s a very good sign,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you believe \u2014\u201d Heinrich tried again, but Psaki kept going.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know what works. The CDC is always going to be reviewing their guidance, including mask guidance. But in terms of when they will provide additional new guidance, that is up to them,\u201d she said again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you believe then that the Democratic- led states who are breaking with the CDC on this guidance, that they\u2019re not \u2014 that they\u2019re throwing science away and that the CDC is \u2014 has access to different science somehow?\u201d Heinrich pressed, referencing a number of states including Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Oregon, and even California that had announced a plan to roll back or remove entirely the mask mandates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t look at it through that prism. These states, I think it\u2019s important to note, they still allow for decisions to be made by local school districts,\u201d Psaki said, going on to argue that the real concern is that there would be places where parents or children <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/school-board-members-try-to-walk-out-on-bosnian-immigrant-warning-against-tyranny-he-continues-to-standing-ovation\/\">choose to wear masks<\/a> in schools but elected leaders would prevent them from doing so. She then claimed that was already the case in some states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope is that states, leaders will look at the science and data about what\u2019s going on, they\u2019ll make decisions about local school districts. Local school districts have always made these decisions. That remains the case,\u201d Psaki concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the White House\u2019s position \u2013 to keep mask mandates in place as long as the CDC recommends that \u2014 Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-rep-credits-bidens-leadership-for-vanishing-mask-mandates\/\">claimed<\/a> Tuesday that it was \u201cBiden\u2019s leadership\u201d that had succeeded in \u201ccrushing the virus\u201d to the point that some states felt ready to abandon mandates.<\/p>\n<p>Other medical professionals \u2014 including CNN medical expert and former Planned Parenthood head Leana Wen \u2014 have suggested that it might be <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/cnn-medical-expert-says-its-time-to-lift-the-mask-mandates-to-preserve-medical-authority\/\">time to roll back<\/a> the mandates.
