Ned Lamont (D) announced on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat governor <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/Office-of-the-Governor\/News\/Press-Releases\/2022\/02-2022\/Governor-Lamont-Announces-Plan-To-Eliminate-Statewide-School-Mask-Requirement\">announced<\/a> that he endorses a plan to eliminate the statewide school mask mandate rule on February 28, 2022. From there, decisions on whether children will be forced to wear masks in schools will be determined at the local level.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cConnecticut is seeing a dramatic decline in cases caused by the Omicron variant, and children over the age of 5 have had the ability to get vaccinated for more than three months now,\u201d Lamont said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWith this in mind, I think we are in a good position to phase out the requirement that masks be worn in all schools statewide and shift the determination on whether to require this to the local level,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>His office\u2019s press release emphasized that Lamont still believes mask mandates should remain in place \u201cin&nbsp;other settings where it currently is in effect, including healthcare facilities, facilities housing vulnerable populations, public and private transit, and correctional facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other blue state governors recently announced the lifting of school mask mandates as well, including&nbsp;New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D), who is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/07\/some-blue-states-end-mask-mandates-joining-bidens-pivot-midterms\/\">lifting<\/a>&nbsp;the school\u2019s mask mandate on March 7. Delaware Gov. John Carney (D) is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/07\/delaware-gov-john-carney-announces-end-indoor-mask-mandate\/\">lifting<\/a> the statewide indoor mask mandate on February 11 and the school mask mandate on March 31.<\/p>\n<p>Oregon, too,&nbsp;which notably&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/07\/oregon-health-authority-adopts-permanent-rules-for-masking-in-schools\/\">changed<\/a> the status of its indoor mask rules from \u201ctemporary\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>to \u201cpermanent,\u201d announced plans to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/ORDHS\/bulletins\/3098e7d\">lift<\/a> the school mask mandate on March 31 as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Connecticut is one of the latest blue states to announce plans to eliminate the statewide school mask mandate, Gov.
