Rather than pointing to federal spending or loose monetary policy, Democratic officials have placed the blame on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/this-crazy-human-elizabeth-warren-slammed-after-blaming-grocery-stores-for-soaring-food-prices\"><span>supermarkets<\/span><\/a><span> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/dismissing-inflation-concerns-warren-asks-the-doj-to-probe-poultry-companies-for-corporate-greed-in-raising-turkey-prices\"><span>meat companies<\/span><\/a><span> for trying to earn higher profits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Psaki repeated the same claims on Tuesday afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cJust four large conglomerates control the majority of the market for beef, pork, and poultry products, and the data show \u2026 that there have been increases in meat prices while the companies have generated recent record profits,\u201d Psaki said in response to a reporter during her press briefing.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thanks to a softball from Bloomberg&#8217;s Jordan Fabian, Jen Psaki reiterates that meat and poultry companies are the reason why we&#8217;ve seen such a skyrocketing rise in the price of beef, chicken, and pork at the grocery store. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pp8U9JoSQc\">pic.twitter.com\/pp8U9JoSQc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurtisHouck\/status\/1491145287381008388?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 8, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>\u201cIf you look at historical precedent here, 50 years ago ranchers got over $0.60 for every dollar a family spent on beef. Today, they get about $0.39,\u201d she added. \u201c50 years ago, hog farmers got $0.40 to $0.60 for each dollar they spent. Today, it\u2019s about $0.19, and the big companies are still making major profits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt certainly shouldn\u2019t work that way,\u201d Psaki concluded. \u201cAs the President said many times, capitalism without competition isn\u2019t capitalism, it\u2019s exploitation. And we have continued concern about the lack of competition in these industries.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Psaki\u2019s remarks mirror those made by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/dismissing-inflation-concerns-warren-asks-the-doj-to-probe-poultry-companies-for-corporate-greed-in-raising-turkey-prices\"><span>pressed<\/span><\/a><span> Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter to investigate poultry companies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe heavily concentrated poultry industry, in which the top four companies (Tyson Foods, Inc. (Tyson), Pilgrim\u2019s Pride, Perdue, and Sanderson Farms) control over half of the market, has seen disproportionate price increases this year,\u201d Warren wrote to Kanter. \u201cIn May 2021, processed-poultry prices jumped to an all-time high, with consumer prices continuing to increase through October. And with the holidays approaching, American families are feeling these price increases at the grocery counter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cLack of competition in the poultry industry is allowing these massive companies to squeeze both American consumers and farmers to fuel record corporate profits and payouts to shareholders,\u201d she continued. \u201cWhen companies have monopoly power as massive suppliers, they can jack up prices of the goods they sell.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As The Daily Wire previously reported, Tyson <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/with-recent-price-increase-tyson-foods-successfully-passes-inflation-costs-on-to-consumers\"><span>attributed<\/span><\/a><span> its recent price hikes to inflationary pressures. The firm is also battling labor shortages that have been presenting challenges to businesses across the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Price hikes for groceries extend well beyond meat. Other food companies \u2014 including Nestl\u00e9, the world\u2019s largest food and beverage firm \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/worlds-largest-food-company-will-raise-prices-amid-inflation\"><span>unveiled<\/span><\/a><span> price hikes to keep pace with inflation. CEO Mark Schneider told journalists last year that \u201cwhat we\u2019ve seen this year is some kind of a turning point, where after several years of low inflation, all of a sudden it accelerated very strongly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Indeed, inflation is eroding Americans\u2019 wealth.
