No ifs, ands or buts.&quot; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1LntlB7T7E\">https:\/\/t.co\/1LntlB7T7E<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/P2aUyzC6pJ\">pic.twitter.com\/P2aUyzC6pJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; CBS News (@CBSNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CBSNews\/status\/1352038550649372675?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 20, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The \u201ccredible evidence\u201d of Lander\u2019s \u201cdisrespectful interactions with staff by Dr. Lander and OSTP [Office of Science and Technology Policy]\u00a0leadership\u201d includes bullying and demeaning subordinates, according to Christian Peele, the White House\u2019s deputy director of OSTP management and administration for personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Lander, a White House cabinet member who has been touted as a central figure in Biden\u2019s failed attempt to shut down the virus, spoke \u201charshly and disrespectfully to colleagues in front of other colleagues,\u201d Peele said in the recording\u00a0<em>Politico<\/em>\u00a0obtained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe investigation found credible evidence of instances of multiple women having complained to other staff about negative interactions with Dr. Lander, where he spoke to them in a demeaning or abrasive way in front of other staff,\u201d Peele added.<\/p>\n<section class=\"page-content__row page-content__row--story main-section\">\n<div class=\"container container--story story-layout--fixed-fluid\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story center-horizontally hide-under-medium\">\n<div class=\"container container--story story-layout--fixed-fluid\">\n<p>Fourteen former and current OSTP staff members under Lander\u2019s direction\u00a0confirmed\u00a0the White House investigation\u00a0to\u00a0<em>Politico,\u00a0<\/em>corroborating\u00a0that \u201cLander frequently bullied, cut off and dismissed subordinates.\u201d Lander allegedly yelled and humiliated subordinates in front of team members.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story center-horizontally hide-under-medium\">\n<p>After\u00a0Lander reportedly\u00a0learned<em>\u00a0<\/em>the White House investigation would\u00a0go\u00a0public, he apologized for his \u201cconduct\u201d to\u00a0<em>Politico<\/em>\u00a0and admitted he \u201cpoorly\u201d treated staffers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section class=\"page-content__row page-content__row--story main-section\">\n<div class=\"container container--story story-layout--fixed-fluid\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story\">\n<div class=\"container__row container__row--story story-layout--fluid-fixed\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story center-horizontally\">\n<div class=\"story-text\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story center-horizontally\">\n<div class=\"story-text\">\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s my responsibility to set a respectful tone for our community. It\u2019s clear that I have not lived up to this responsibility,\u201d he said. \u201cI have spoken to colleagues within OSTP in a disrespectful or demeaning way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph\">On Tuesday, Lander is\u00a0scheduled to testify before\u00a0the House\u2019s Health Subcommittee on biomedical research.
