Steinberg, 37, was transported to \u201cGarnet Health Medical Center Catskills where he was pronounced dead as a result of a heart attack, according to the U.S. Fire Administration,\u201d the outlet said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Suspect Mohammed Islam, 32, allegedly broke into the home and started the fire using wood from a dresser drawer and paper, a felony complaint, obtained by the <em>Times Herald-Record,<\/em> asserts. Islam has been arrested and charged with fourth-degree arson and second-degree burglary.<\/p>\n<p>Islam is now being <a href=\"https:\/\/indefenseof.us\/assets\/images\/BAIL-ELIGIBLE-OFFENSES.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">held<\/a> in Sullivan County Jail on $100,000 bail according to the <em>Post.<\/em>&nbsp;Second-degree burglary is a bail-eligible offense, per Brooklyn Defender Services.<\/p>\n<p>Before the January 15 fire, Islam had been arrested and charged in connection to two other alleged arsons that were carried on January 10 and January 13 in Thompson, according to a felony complaint.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOn January 14th, just one day before setting the fatal fire which claimed Billy\u2019s life, the suspect was arrested for previous felony arson crimes and mandatorily released from custody in accordance with New York\u2019s bail reform law,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MikeMartucciNY\">said<\/a> State Sen. Mike Martucci (R-42) in a Facebook post on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Martucci has introduced legislation called \u201cBilly\u2019s Law\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2021\/s8181\">S.8181<\/a>), \u201cwhich will authorize&nbsp;bail and pre-trial detention for ALL arson felonies, allowing law enforcement to keep&nbsp;those criminals in custody and off our streets,\u201d according to the senator\u2019s government website.<\/p>\n<p>Martucci spoke at a press conference on Saturday at the Forestburgh Firehouse and emphasized the importance of his proposed legislation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=373876664548995&amp;set=pb.100057799940922.-2207520000..&amp;type=3\" data-width=\"640\">\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=373876664548995&amp;set=a.292164592720203&amp;type=3\" class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\">\n<p>Posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MikeMartucciNY\">Mike Martucci<\/a> on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=373876664548995&amp;set=a.292164592720203&amp;type=3\">Saturday, February 5, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOur state leaders should not need any more evidence that bail reform is a failed policy.
