Psaki\u2019s comments were in response to a question regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/13\/joe-rogan-robert-malone-spotify-covid-19\/\"><u>backlash<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;towards podcast host Joe Rogan, with whom Spotify has an exclusive contract, for hosting two guests who were skeptical of the COVID-19 vaccine\u2019s safety and efficacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope is that all major tech platforms and all major news sources for that matter be responsible and be vigilant,\u201d Psaki said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/03\/check-my-ads-reid-hoffman-good-information-inc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Left-Wing Activists Tied To \u2018Disinformation\u2019 Group Are Working To Demonetize Conservative News Sites)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Not The First Time<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy took an even more aggressive stance towards Rogan and alleged vaccine misinformation in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/morning-joe\/watch\/u-s-surgeon-general-politicization-and-misinformation-two-barriers-in-fighting-pandemic-131633733932\"><u>interview<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;with MSNBC on Jan. 25, saying tech companies and media organizations have an \u201cimportant role to play\u201d in curating information, and that \u201cwe\u201d must \u201croot out\u201d misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis not just about what the government can do,\u201d Murthy said. \u201cThis is about companies and individuals recognizing that the only way we get past misinformation is if we are careful about what we say and use the power that we have to limit the spread of misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Psaki and Murthy previously urged social media companies to take action against the spread of misinformation on their platforms on July 15, with Murthy <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/surgeon-general-vivek-murthy-misinformation-covid-19-coronavirus\/\"><u>releasing<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;a \u201cmisinformation advisory\u201d intended to instruct institutions, including tech companies, on how to handle false or misleading COVID-19 information.<\/p>\n<p>The advisory recommended tech platforms \u201cimpose clear consequences for accounts that repeatedly violate platform policies\u201d regarding COVID-19 misinformation and that platforms \u201credesign recommendation algorithms to avoid amplifying misinformation, build in \u201cfrictions\u201d\u2014 such as suggestions and warnings\u2014to reduce the sharing of misinformation, and make it easier for users to report misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the release of the advisory, Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/covid-19-jen-psaki-white-house-facebook\/\"><u>told<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;reporters at a press conference that the White House was \u201cflagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Psaki urged Facebook and other social media platforms to \u201ccreate a robust enforcement strategy that bridges their properties and provides transparency about the rules,\u201d to take \u201cfaster action against harmful posts,\u201d and to promote \u201cquality information sources in their feed algorithm.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7353852\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7353852\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki talks to reporters in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House on January 14, 2022 in Washington, DC.
