Abdi received sentencing in a St. Paul, Minnesota, district court, as first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/minneapolis-george-floyd-riots-pled-guilty-burn-down-high-school-sentenced-probation\">reported<\/a> by Fox News. He was taken into custody in June 2020 after walking into a High school amid rioting and setting fire to a trash bin. Security footage shows he poured liquid on the ground, as well as into the can, and ran away as smoke started to build.<\/p>\n<p>Abdi was sentenced pursuant to the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984, according to court documents reviewed by Fox News. The federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/98th-congress\/house-bill\/5773\">statute<\/a> \u201cpermits an individual to be sentenced to a term of imprisonment or probation and a fine, and to receive additional sanctions. Sanctions mentioned include \u2018forfeiture for certain racketeering crimes and drug-related offenses,\u2019 an order of nice to crime victims regarding fraud or deception, and restitution in cases that involve property damage or bodily injury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rioter was also hit with a fine totaling close to $34,000. It is to be paid to the high school targeted by Abdi \u2014 Gordon Parks High School in St. Paul. Gordon Parks was damaged by vandalism and fire, according to a complaint in conjunction with Abdi being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/news\/maplewood-man-charged-with-arson-of-gordon-parks-high-in-st-paul-amid-riots\">charged<\/a> in 2020. Abdi coordinated with a friend and also chucked rocks at law enforcement, Star Tribune <a href=\"https:\/\/www.startribune.com\/maplewood-man-pleads-guilty-to-conspiracy-to-light-st-paul-school-on-fire-during-riots\/600038501\/\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Abdi is not the only Minneapolis rioter who is making headlines.&nbsp;As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/man-who-burned-down-pawnshop-during-george-floyd-riots-killing-1-escapes-murder-charge\">reported<\/a> by The Daily Wire, Montez Terriel Lee, 26, dodged a murder charge. Lee burned down a pawnshop amid the Floyd riots, which resulted in the death of 30-year-old Oscar Lee Stewart. The U.S. Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-mn\/pr\/rochester-man-sentenced-10-years-prison-arson-minneapolis-pawn-shop-resulted-death-man\">relied<\/a> on The Hennepin County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office \u2014 who said Stewart\u2019s death was because of &nbsp;\u201cprobable inhalation of products of combustion and thermal injury (building fire).\u201d Lee was sentenced to 10 years in prison for arson.<\/p>\n<p>BLM\u2019s 2020 riots in 140 major U.S. cities were at one point estimated to have cost more than $1 billion, Axios notably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/riots-cost-property-damage-276c9bcc-a455-4067-b06a-66f9db4cea9c.html\">reported<\/a> in September of that year. The report called the riots the \u201cmost expensive\u201d damage in \u201cinsurance history,\u201d ahead of the 1992 riots in Los Angeles following the acquittal of four police officers for the arrest and beating of Rodney King.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA company called Property Claim Services (PCS) has tracked insurance claims related to civil disorder since 1950,\u201d the report stated. \u201cIt classifies anything over $25 million in insured losses as a \u2018catastrophe,\u2019 and reports that the unrest this year (from May 26 to June 8) will cost the insurance industry far more than any prior one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minneapolis was hit especially hard during the riots. A report shortly after the city was slammed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/news\/map-shows-approximately-700-buildings-damaged-in-minneapolis-riots\">showed<\/a> about 700 buildings were damaged. Volunteers helped clean up the debris on the heels of the madness.
