Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), chair of the far-left Congressional Progressive Caucus,&nbsp;is reportedly eyeing a House leadership position while the Democrats\u2019 chances of retaining their wafer-thin majority are growing increasingly small.<\/p>\n<p>More than 15 lawmakers and aides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/02\/04\/house-democrats-leadership-shuffle-00005498\">confirmed<\/a> to <em>Politico<\/em> that Jayapal is floating the idea of a 2022 House leadership position among her colleagues. Some members of the House Progressive Caucus, which she chairs, believe she may even challenge Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) and David Scott (D-GA) make calls to other members of Congress on her behalf.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, at this time, the report said some Democrat representatives believe Jayapal\u2019s focus is in the wrong place.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe last thing you want, if you are a person that is thinking about running, is to rock the boat right now. Because we all need to be concentrated on 2022,\u201d Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ)&nbsp;said. Gallego refused to comment on Jayapal\u2019s potential leadership campaign.<\/p>\n<p>However,&nbsp;some Democrat lawmakers believe Jayapal\u2019s focus should be on legislating. Since key components of President Joe Biden\u2019s agenda stalled in Congress, 29 Democrat lawmakers already announced they would not be returning to Congress next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just not a type of conversation in my circles. It will be someday, but not now,\u201d Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) told&nbsp;<em>Politico<\/em>. \u201cPeople are focused on \u2014 got to start talking up the economy, our accomplishments, and turning around the dynamic for the midterms. And we can worry about everything else later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s too early to focus on that,\u201d Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ)&nbsp;said&nbsp;when asked about Jayapal\u2019s outreach.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about it, fellow so-called \u201csquad\u201d member Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) was hesitant to support Jayapal\u2019s interest in House leadership. Bush\u2019s focus is currently on the midterm elections. \u201cI haven\u2019t heard it officially yet. We\u2019ll have to see. We have to win the midterms first,\u201d Bush&nbsp;said, according to <em>Politico<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Jayapal\u2019s polarizing tactics during the Build Back Better negotiations could cost her some support if she seeks a House leadership position. As chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Jayapal used her liberal voting bloc to&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/inequality.org\/great-divide\/build-back-better-progressive-caucus-jayapal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stall<\/a>&nbsp;progress on Biden\u2019s Build Back Better agenda, which she felt was only a \u201cdown payment\u201d on a much more progressive agenda.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15084282\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1227723165.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15084282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1227723165.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWhether she could actually find traction outside her base of the inner core of the Progressive Caucus\u201d is an open question, an anonymous Democrat representative told&nbsp;<em>Politico.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, House<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Budget chair John Yarmuth (D-KY)<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>praised Jayapal\u2019s negotiation skills. \u201cIn the final analysis she was very effective. I believe she stood her ground. \u2026 She was ultimately willing to make the right concessions and, and bring her people along,\u201d Yarmuth&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/02\/04\/house-democrats-leadership-shuffle-00005498\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although chatter points to Jayapal\u2019s interest in a House leadership position, those closest to her refused to comment on the situation publicly.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rep. Escobar told&nbsp;<em>Politico&nbsp;<\/em>she refuses to \u201ctalk about any leadership races publicly\u201d during an interview. Additionally, a Jayapal spokesperson&nbsp;said&nbsp;she \u201cis focused on delivering for the people each and every day as an advocate for progressive policies in Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs is common at this point in the cycle, she is considering how that could translate to a role in leadership, but has not made any decisions,\u201d Jayapal\u2019s spokesperson continued. \u201cThat decision will also be informed by the plans of her valued colleagues in the current leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Majority Leader (D-NY) Steny Hoyer and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) remained supportive of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) amid rumors of Jayapal\u2019s interest in leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeader Hoyer remains laser focused on getting our work done for the American people and maintaining our Democratic Majority,\u201d Hoyer\u2019s communications director&nbsp;said&nbsp;in a statement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17258618\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Steny-Hoyer-Mask-Policy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17258618\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Steny-Hoyer-Mask-Policy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rep.
