(Erin Schaff\/The New York Times via Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIf the Vice President [Mike Pence] had \u2018absolutely no right\u2019 to change the Presidential Election results in the Senate, despite fraud and many other irregularities, how come the Democrats and RINO Republicans \u2026 are desperately trying to pass legislation that will not allow the Vice President to change the results of the election?\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donaldjtrump.com\/news\/news-hktthafwz61481\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually, what they are saying, is that Mike Pence did have the right to change the outcome, and they now want to take that right away. Unfortunately, he didn\u2019t exercise that power; he could have overturned the Election!\u201d the 45th U.S. president said.<\/p>\n<p>Pence on Friday told the conservative legal group at the event in Orlando: \u201cThere are those in our party who believe that as the presiding officer over the joint session of Congress, I possessed unilateral authority to reject Electoral College votes. And I heard this week that President Trump said I had the right to \u2018overturn the election.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election,\u201d said the former vice president. \u201cThe presidency belongs to the American people, and the American people alone. Frankly, there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cUnder the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election. And Kamala Harris will have no right to overturn the election when we beat them in 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The audience applauded Pence\u2019s line about beating the Democrats in the upcoming presidential election, but remained silent when Pence said earlier that \u201cTrump is wrong,\u201d reported <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mike-pence-donald-trump-election-2020-84ff467d9ff5bfaad084e274f69ac521\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Later Friday, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realLizUSA\/status\/1489796362308886531\">issued a statement<\/a>\u00a0through his\u00a0political action committee, Save America, criticizing Pence\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust saw Mike Pence\u2019s statement on the fact that he had no right to do anything with respect to the Electoral Vote Count, other than being an automatic conveyor belt \u2026 to get Biden elected President as quickly as possible,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, the Vice President\u2019s position is not an automatic conveyor if obvious signs of voter fraud or irregularities exist. That\u2019s why the Democrats and RINOs are working feverishly together to change the very law that Mike Pence and his unwitting advisors used on January 6 to say he had no choice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason they want it changed is because they now say they don\u2019t want the Vice President to have the right to ensure an honest vote,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cIn other words, I was right and everyone knows it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there is fraud or large scale irregularities, it would have been appropriate to send those votes back to the legislatures to figure it out. The Dems and RINOs want to take that right away. A great opportunity lost, but not forever, in the meantime our Country is going to hell!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leading up to Jan. 6,\u00a0Republican electors in seven states\u2014Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico\u2014had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mkt_app\/electors-in-7-states-cast-dueling-votes-for-trump_3620059.html\">cast alternative slates of votes<\/a> for Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Pence, as vice president, is the president of the Senate and presided over the joint session on Jan. 6, where he read out the electoral votes for all 50 states.\u00a0During the session, Pence\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pence-congress-ignored-alternative-slates-of-electors-during-joint-session_3647546.html\">did not acknowledge<\/a> the alternative slates of votes for Trump from the seven states and only read off the certificates for Biden.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Pence\u2019s office didn\u2019t return an inquiry from The Epoch Times on why he didn\u2019t acknowledge alternate slates.<\/p>\n<p>On the day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-urges-pence-to-send-electoral-results-back-to-state-legislatures_3645380.html\">Trump\u00a0called on Pence<\/a> to send key battleground states\u2019 electoral results back to state legislatures and he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-if-vice-president-comes-through-we-will-win-the-presidency_3645574.html\">said<\/a> that if Pence \u201ccomes through for us, we will win the Presidency.\u201d Trump also <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210414173229\/https:\/\/www.donaldjtrump.com\/media\/statement-from-president-donald-j.-trump-152020\/\">said in a statement<\/a> the day prior that Pence had \u201cseveral options\u201d under the U.S. Constitution. \u201cHe can decertify the results or send them back to the states for change and certification. He can also decertify the illegal and corrupt results and send them to the House of Representatives for the one vote for one state tabulation,\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>But shortly before the joint session began, Pence indicated he would not reject any disputed electoral votes, saying he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pence-constitution-constrains-me-from-rejecting-electoral-votes_3646080.html\">lacked the power to do so<\/a> under the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the controversy surrounding this year\u2019s election, some approach this year\u2019s quadrennial tradition with great expectation, others with dismissive disdain,\u201d Pence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pence-didnt-have-the-courage-to-reject-electoral-votes-trump-says_3646388.html\">said in a statement<\/a> at the time. \u201cSome believe that as Vice President, I should be able to accept or reject electoral votes unilaterally. Others believe that electoral votes should never be challenged in a Joint Session of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a careful study of our Constitution, our laws, and our history, I believe neither view is correct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Pence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pence-welcomes-efforts-by-lawmakers-to-object-to-electoral-college-votes-on-jan-6-report_3641319.html\">did support efforts<\/a> by Republican legislators to object to the certification of electoral votes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the voting irregularities that took place in our November elections and the disregard of state election statutes by some officials, I welcome the efforts of Senate and House members who have stepped forward to use their authority under the law to raise objections and present evidence,\u201d Pence said\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mike_Pence\/status\/1346879811151605762\/photo\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a letter to Congress<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Congress ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/congress-certifies-electoral-college-votes-for-biden_3647241.html\">certified the Electoral College votes for Joe Biden<\/a>\u00a0after the chambers debated and voted to reject Republican lawmakers\u2019 challenges to\u00a0electoral tallies from Arizona and Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-mimi-nguyen-ly\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/WEB_MimiNguyen_1.jpg\" alt=\"Mimi Nguyen Ly\" \/><\/a>Follow<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bio\">Mimi Nguyen Ly is a reporter covering world news with a focus on U.S. news.
