She also stated most of the lockdowns occurred under the \u201cprevious president,\u201d meaning former President Donald J. Trump.<\/p>\n<p>During the daily press briefing, a reporter asked for comment regarding a recent working paper by Johns Hopkins University that found lockdowns had \u201clittle to no effect on public health\u201d during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/johns-hopkins-study-lockdowns-had-little-to-no-effect-on-covid-19-mortality-but-had-devastating-effects-on-society\">reported<\/a> on the paper\u2019s findings:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The study, published by the Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health, and the Study of Business Enterprise conducted and by three professors from around the world, also found that lockdowns \u201cimposed enormous economic and social costs\u201d and are \u201cill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In response to the reporter\u2019s questions, Psaki advised the media to ask the White House medical experts about the findings of the study, while also saying it was inaccurate to say the Biden White House ever pushed lockdowns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would note that the president has been clear, we\u2019re not pushing lockdowns. We\u2019ve not been pro-lockdown,\u201d said Psaki. \u201cThat has not been his agenda. Most of the lockdowns actually happened under the previous president. What our objective has been is to convey that we have the tools we need to keep our country open thanks to the president\u2019s leadership and focus on fighting the virus. And that\u2019s reflected in the fact that 98% of schools are open, over 210 million Americans are fully vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the tools to avoid lockdowns and we\u2019re not moving back and that\u2019s our intention at this point,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou guys do believe that lockdowns were more harmful than helpful?\u201d the reporter pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain I would point you to our scientific experts on the specifics of a study,\u201d Psaki responded. \u201cBut the president\u2019s agenda the president\u2019s approach has not been locked down it has been using the tools we have to prevent that.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>While Biden has never explicitly stated during his presidency that he was in favor of the lockdown, after Texas and Mississippi relaxed restrictions including business\u2019 operational capacities, the president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-mocks-texas-and-mississippi-for-reopening-dropping-mask-mandates-neanderthal-thinking\">called the decisions<\/a> \u201cNeanderthal thinking,\u201d The Daily Wire previously reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Democrat President Joe Biden mocked Texas and Mississippi on Wednesday over the two states announcing that they were fully reopening their economies and lifting mandatory mask mandates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI think it\u2019s a big mistake,\u201d Biden said in a response to a question about the two states. \u201cLook, I hope everybody\u2019s realized by now these masks make a difference. We are on the cusp of being able to fundamentally change the nature of this disease because of the way in which we\u2019re able to get vaccines in people\u2019s arms. We\u2019ve been able to move that all the way up to the end of May to have enough for every American, to get every adult American to get a shot.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe last thing, the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking that in mean time everything\u2019s fine, take off your mask,\u201d Biden continued. \u201cForget it. It\u2019s still matters. \u2026 And it\u2019s critical, critical, critical, critical that they follow the science. Wash your hands, hot water, do it frequently. Wear a mask and stay socially distance. And I know you all know that, I wish the heck some of our elected officials knew it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While on the campaign trail in September 2020, then-candidate Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/08\/21\/joe-biden-lockdown-us-coronavirus-400126\">also stated<\/a> that he would be in favor of \u201cshutting down\u201d the country if that\u2019s what his medical team advised:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cI would shut it down; I would listen to the scientists,\u201d Biden told ABC\u2019s David Muir in a joint interview with his running mate, Sen.
