They have all survived. On Tuesday, two campus officers were shot and killed during an active shooter situation at Bridgewater College in Virginia.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In St. Louis, the two officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description of one involved in a homicide the night before. As they approached the vehicle, the suspects inside started shooting at them, striking both officers. One officer, who was hit in the leg, was in \u201cvery critical, very unstable\u201d condition late last week, but is reportedly showing \u201camazing\u201d improvement this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In Milwaukee, a sheriff\u2019s deputy was shot multiple times in the arms and torso after pursuing a passenger who fled on foot during a traffic stop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Three officers in Houston were shot by a suspect who fled the scene and barricaded himself in a house, leading to another gunfight with police. The suspect surrendered after being shot in the neck.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In Virginia, police officer John Painter and campus safety officer JJ Jefferson were both killed after being shot by a suspect carrying a gun on Bridgewater\u2019s campus. The suspect was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound following the attack, but it is unclear whether it was self-inflicted or a result of his shootout with police.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In late January, two NYPD officers were killed on duty. The city recently held two massive funerals within one week.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>NYPD officer Jason Rivera was laid to rest last Friday after he and his partner, Wilbert Mora, were ambushed in Harlem while responding to a domestic disturbance call.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Mora, Rivera\u2019s partner, also died from his injuries and his funeral was held on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Political Side<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Many members of the law enforcement community in New York are blaming the recent violence on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg\u2019s recent reforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) has reportedly reached out to Bragg and is actively monitoring the situation. In one interview, she suggested she may use her powers as governor to reverse some of the DA\u2019\u2019s \u201csoft on crime\u201d policies. However, she stopped short of calling for Bragg\u2019s removal.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_338728\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-338728\" class=\"size-full wp-image-338728\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Al-DragoBloombergContributor-via-Getty-Images12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/02\/Al-DragoBloombergContributor-via-Getty-Images12.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/02\/Al-DragoBloombergContributor-via-Getty-Images12-300x200.jpg 300w\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-338728\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Al Drago\/Bloomberg\/Contributor via Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>2) Republican Governors Push Back On National Guard Vaccine Mandate<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>The Topline: <\/b><span>Seven Republican governors asked the Biden administration to exempt members of the National Guard from the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, but the Defense Department rejected the appeal and said unvaccinated servicemen could be removed from the Guard.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Quote Of The Day: <\/b><span>&nbsp;<\/span><span>\u201cWe\u2019ve got about 20% of our national guard that is not vaccinated and the real world application is that this policy is going to be self-defeating\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u2013 Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts (R)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Mandate<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>President Joe Biden has imposed a vaccination mandate on all members of the National Guard and threatened to withhold the pay of anyone who does not comply.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Republican governors in seven states \u2013 Alaska, Oklahoma, Texas, Idaho, Mississippi, Nebraska and Wyoming \u2013 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/586223-abbott-becomes-7th-gop-governor-to-protest-national-guard-vaccine-mandate\"><span>notified<\/span><\/a><span> the Defense Department last December that they would not enforce the mandate on guardsmen in their states. They say the president doesn\u2019t have the power to impose a mandate on National Guardsmen, because under Title 32 of the U.S. code, the National Guard is under the command of the governor in normal circumstances. They\u2019re typically deployed during natural disasters or periods of civil unrest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Officials say the National Guard is part of the military, so they retain control. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/01\/us\/national-guard-vaccine-mandate.html\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span> a letter to the governors saying, \u201c<\/span><span>Failure by a member to do so will lead to a prohibition on participation in drills, training, and other duty conducted under Title 32 and will jeopardize the member\u2019s status in the National Guard<\/span><span>.\u201d Officials also say, since the Guard is federally funded, the administration can withhold funding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Numbers<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In December, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcemag.com\/air-force-20000-unvaccinated-covid-19-guard-reserve-deadline\/\"><span>23,0<\/span><span>00 members<\/span><\/a><span> of the Air National Guard and Air Reserve alone were unvaccinated. Texas has the largest number of National Guardsmen in the country at 20,000 members, and state officials said in court filings that approximately 40% of its personnel were unvaccinated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statenews.org\/government-politics\/2022-01-03\/almost-half-of-ohio-army-national-guard-personnel-cant-be-deployed-on-latest-covid-mission\"><span>47%<\/span><\/a><span> of Ohio\u2019s Army National Guard and around <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfyi.org\/news\/articles\/nearly-one-in-three-indiana-army-national-guard-troops-are-unvaccinated\"><span>a third<\/span><\/a><span> of the 11,500 National Gua<\/span><span>rdsmen in Indiana have not been vaccinated.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_338729\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-338729\" class=\"size-full wp-image-338729\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Michael-ReavesGetty-Images.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/02\/Michael-ReavesGetty-Images.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/02\/Michael-ReavesGetty-Images-300x169.jpeg 300w\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-338729\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael Reaves\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>3) Former NFL Head Coach Sues NFL<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>The Topline: <\/b><span>A lawsuit was filed by a former NFL head coach against the league for racial discrimination in its hiring process, along with allegations that one NFL owner incentivized the coach to lose games.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OmarKelly\/status\/1488893240522813441?s=20&amp;t=tUGltVRu47VA-omDAqup5w\"><b>Quote Of The Day:<\/b><\/a> <span>\u201cI was upset that I wasn\u2019t getting a true opportunity to show what I can do, to show what I can bring to a team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u2013 Former Miami Dolphins Head Coach Brian Flores<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Lawsuit<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In the <\/span><span>class-action suit <\/span><span>filed in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday, former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is suing the NFL and several other teams, naming the Denver Broncos, the New York Giants, and the Dolphins, for racial discrimination in the NFL\u2019s hiring process.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Flores was fired as head coach of the Dolphins in January, following two winning seasons as head coach in Miami.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Flores is accusing Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross of incentivizing him to lose games in order to better the team\u2019s draft stock.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Flores claims that Miami\u2019s owner Stephen Ross pressured Flores to \u201ctank\u201d during the 2019 season, to the point that he offered Flores $100,000 for each loss during the season. He also claims \u201cMr. Ross began to pressure Mr. Flores to recruit a prominent quarterback in violation of League tampering rules\u201d at the end of the 2019 season.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Flores claims that as a result of refusing to recruit the quarterback, he was \u201ctreated with disdain and held out as someone who was noncompliant and difficult to work with.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis is reflective of an all too familiar \u2018angry black man\u2019 stigma that is often casted upon Black men who are strong in their morals and convictions while white men are coined as passionate for those very same attributes,\u201d the suit states.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2018Rooney Rule\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Flores also alleges that the New York Giants interviewed him while already intending to hire Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll in order to satisfy the \u201cRooney Rule\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nflcommunications.com\/Pages\/NFL-EXPANDS-ROONEY-RULE-REQUIREMENTS-TO-STRENGTHEN-DIVERSITY.aspx\"><span>requirements<\/span><\/a><span>, which \u201cis an NFL policy requiring every team with a head coaching vacancy to interview at least one or more diverse candidates.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The suit shows text messages between Flores and New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, in which Belichick informs Flores that the Giants have decided to hire Daboll. Flores worked under Belichick in New England.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Belichick appears to have believed he was texting Daboll instead of Flores.
