Quaglin has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/jan-6-detainee-at-risk-of-dying-from-lack-of-medical-care-attorney-says_4191746.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detained without bail<\/a> since April 2021 while he awaits trial on charges related to the protests and rioting at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He is charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding police, civil disorder, and obstruction of an official proceeding.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing he would be absent for Nathan\u2019s party, Quaglin penned a birthday note to his son:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Dear Nathan,<\/p>\n<p>I love you, buddy. You\u2019re getting so big, and I am sorry that I am not there with you. I think about you every day. It\u2019s what gives me strength to push on day after day. I hope you understand one day why I went to Washington, D.C. on January 6th. I went there for you, my son.<\/p>\n<p>I went there because I saw our American democracy slipping away. I saw a once free America that I love turn into the beginning of a Communist state. Your mother escaped Communist China when she was just a baby. How could I let you, our son, grow up in an America that is not free? I had to do something\u2026 So, I went to have my voice heard.<\/p>\n<p>My job as your father is to protect you, our family, and myself. My duty as a patriot is to protect America. Thomas Jefferson said it best when he said, \u201cWhat country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance.\u201d The Spirit of 1776 my son, is the Spirit of Resistance.<\/p>\n<p>We as Americans had to show the world that America\u2019s freedom wouldn\u2019t be taken without a resistance. The same kind of resistance that my fellow Americans with different political views had been demonstrating throughout 2020. Those Americans poured out into the streets for their views, and J6 patriots poured out for ours, because that is what America is all about.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan, I hope you understand why I couldn\u2019t be there with you on your first birthday. And if I could go back and change my decision to go the Capitol on January 6th I would, but I can\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I am deeply sorry for missing your first birthday. Daddy loves you and will be home as soon as he can.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Birthday Buddy,<br \/>Love, Daddy<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Quaglin continues to suffer from poor health at the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Va., the sixth facility he has been held in since being arrested. His attorney complained repeatedly in late 2021 that Quaglin\u2019s celiac disease had worsened because the jail did not serve his special celiac diet. The jail administrator said Quaglin is receiving proper care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHealth-wise, he\u2019s not doing well,\u201d Joseph McBride, Quaglin\u2019s attorney, told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4194569\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/01\/05\/FB_IMG_1553393915947.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4194569\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/01\/05\/FB_IMG_1553393915947.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"442\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Christopher Quaglin with his wife Moria, who fears her husband could die without medical attention in federal custody. (Courtesy Quaglin Family)<\/figure>\n<p>On a recent visit to the jail\u2019s medical office, Quaglin engaged in what McBride called a \u201cspirited discussion\u201d with the staff about his celiac disease and the jail\u2019s alleged lack of proper care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of that, they wrote him up for a ticket,\u201d McBride said. \u201cAnd when they wrote up a ticket, they they punished him with two things: in \u2018the hole,\u2019 they suspend your privileges, you can\u2019t talk to your family. More importantly, is to take away his commissary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quaglin used his commissary privileges and budget to purchase celiac-safe food, McBride said. Since losing privileges about 10 days ago, Quaglin lost 10 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach time they take his commissary away from him, he has had to rely solely on the jail food,\u201d McBride said. \u201cAnd his health has declined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McBride said aside from losing nearly 30 pounds since being detained, Quaglin is recovering from COVID-19, misses his family terribly, and worries about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.givesendgo.com\/G24BK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paying<\/a> his legal bills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looked like Jesus Christ on the cross, literally just the broken man, suffering,\u201d McBride said.<\/p>\n<p>Attorneys are preparing civil litigation in an effort to improve conditions for or even free Quaglin.<\/p>\n<p>McBride said he will file \u201csignificant civil litigation regarding the legality of his confinements\u201d and regarding \u201cthe fact that he\u2019s been punished, absent due process. You\u2019re not allowed to be punished, never mind tortured, absence a finding of guilt by a jury of your peers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe hasn\u2019t been found guilty. He\u2019s been in solitary confinement for 10 months,\u201d McBride said. \u201cHe\u2019s been physically and medically tortured and psychologically tortured. It\u2019s gross, it\u2019s un-American, and it\u2019s wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Like a Chinese Political Dissident<\/h2>\n<p>In a Feb. 2 letter addressed to \u201cAmerican Patriots,\u201d Quaglin compared his treatment to what dissidents face in communist China, the native country of his wife, Moria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been tortured for ten months in jail,\u201d Quaglin wrote. \u201cI was purposefully infected with COVID. I have been moved to seven different jails where my rights have been violated time and time again. I have spent ten months in solitary confinement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In April 2021, the FBI \u201cswarmed me during my arrest as if I were a high-ranking Al-Qaeda operative,\u201d Quaglin wrote. \u201cThey took me from my son when he was just eight weeks old. He will turn 1 on February 5th, and I am absolutely devastated that I cannot be with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quaglin said having to eat food containing gluten badly damages his body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am weak. My organs are being irreversibly damaged.\u201d he wrote. \u201cI am down almost 30 pounds after my most recent move to Northern Neck Regional Jail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fear that I may die here.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-joe-hanneman\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/WEB_JoeHanneman.jpg\" alt=\"Joseph M.
