John Kennedy grilled Sarah Bloom Raskin, President Joe Biden\u2019s nominee for the Federal Reserve\u2019s vice chair for supervision, over her past comments regarding the oil and gas industry during a Thursday confirmation hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy took issue with <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/14\/joe-biden-sarah-bloom-raskin-federal-reserve-positions\/\">Raskin\u2019s<\/a> New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/05\/28\/opinion\/fed-fossil-fuels.html\">opinion piece<\/a> from May 2020, in which she argued against the Federal Reserve\u2019s support for the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/19\/joe-biden-department-of-the-interior-oil-gas-gulf-of-mexico\/\">oil and gas industry<\/a> despite the financial hardships caused to companies by the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMay 2020. World economy is melting down, because government shut it down. We\u2019re trying to hold it together with bailing wire, duct tape, spit and happy thoughts. And you say, \u2018that\u2019s great, but we ought to let oil and gas companies go broke,&#8217;\u201d the senator said. \u201cDid you really mean that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH<\/strong>:<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/02\/senate-banking-committee-prepares-for-showdown-over-fed-nominees\/\">president\u2019s nominee<\/a> said in response that she believed the Fed\u2019s role to be not the one of picking \u201cwinners and losers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fed should not pick or favor any sector at all,\u201d Raskin added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/18\/saule-omarova-john-kennedy-marxist-communisty-nominee-joe-biden\/\">(RELATED: \u2018I Don\u2019t Know Whether To Call You Professor Or Comrade\u2019: John Kennedy Grills Biden\u2019s \u2018Marxist\u2019 Nominee)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why did you say it?\u201d Kennedy pressed further. \u201cWhy did you recommend to them that they let oil and gas go broke?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raskin then pushed back against the senator\u2019s accusations, stating that the op-ed was written in the context of the regulatory body\u2019s \u201cspecial program\u201d and was not meant as a general instruction.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy told Raskin that he would respect her more, had she admitted to having such views.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, this is America. You can believe what you want, and I mean that. But I don\u2019t agree with your mission to politicize the Federal Reserve,\u201d the senator added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think the Federal Reserve should be politicized, either,\u201d Ruskin responded.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican lawmaker then quoted Ruskin\u2019s June 2020 op-ed which made the case for the federal regulatory bodies to \u201callocate capital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A coalition of financial officers from 25 states sent Biden a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/31\/states-financial-officers-joe-biden-climate-change-policies\/\">letter<\/a> Monday, announcing their opposition to the nomination of Ruskin, who they said would jeopardize the nation\u2019s financial and economic stability to achieve her \u201cpreferred social outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Louisiana Sen.
