Chuck Schumer apologized Thursday saying he misspoke after he apparently forgot that Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was black.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president\u2019s pledge to name a black woman to the Supreme Court is historic,\u201d Schumer said. \u201cThere have been 115 justices who have sat on the court since 1789, only five of them have ever been women, none until 1981. Under President Biden and this Senate majority, we\u2019re taking historic steps to make the courts look more like the country they serve,\u201d Schumer continued. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/30\/poll-majority-americans-biden-should-consider-all-possible-scotus-nominees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: POLL: Majority Of Americans Say Biden Should \u2018Consider All Possible\u2019 Supreme Court Nominees)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Marshall, the first black Supreme Court Justice, served from 1967 until 1991.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer later <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSchumer\/status\/1489315669548146689?s=20&amp;t=DWKXS1IcQ9Y9uhgY4CGBIg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> that he \u201cmisspoke earlier today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, I remember the dedication and legal excellence that Thurgood Marshall brought to the Supreme Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/26\/joe-biden-supreme-court-nominee-black-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">promised<\/a> while on the campaign trail that should the opportunity arise, he would nominate the first <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/27\/joy-behar-the-view-left-wing-pundits-launch-attack-supreme-court-justice-clarence-thomas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black<\/a> female justice. Biden has stuck by his earlier promise, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/27\/joe-biden-supreme-court-pick-february-black-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">confirming<\/a> he will nominate a black woman with a decision made by the end of February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe person I will nominate will be someone of extraordinary qualifications, character, experience and integrity,\u201d Biden recently said. \u201cAnd that person will be the first black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court.
