Ed Durr (R-NJ), who wowed the nation by defeating longtime Senate President Stephen Sweeney last year, told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview Wednesday that he supported the Canadian \u201cFreedom Convoy\u201d led by fellow truckers, who have been \u201csocial distancing in trucking long before it became a popular phrase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durr asserted that any decision to receive a vaccine or any medical intervention is \u201cpersonal business, not the government\u2019s business,\u201d and dismissed far-left Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a \u201cjoke\u201d for calling trucker protesters racist when he himself has a long history of wearing blackface.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Last November, Durr became the most famous trucker in America when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/03\/exclusive-truck-driver-edward-durr-how-i-took-out-new-jerseys-top-democratic-boss\/\">defeated<\/a> the Garden State\u2019s longtime Senate President Steve Sweeney (D) in a stunning upset that wowed political experts across the spectrum. After 25 years on the road with over two million miles driven, he knows a thing or two about what motivated the truckers to protest the vaccine mandates up in Canada.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ottawa city council: \u201cmy residents and I fear for our lives!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Convoy protesters: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ce4FLmL11t\">pic.twitter.com\/Ce4FLmL11t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Marie Oakes (@TheMarieOakes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheMarieOakes\/status\/1489117445860253704?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 3, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI support the truckers,\u201d Durr said over the phone. \u201cI feel that anybody\u2019s health is their personal business, not the government\u2019s business. So when you have a mandate that requires you to tell everybody what your health status is to enter a country or have a job, it is wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a private issue between yourself, your doctor, your spouse. It\u2019s not for public knowledge. It\u2019s not for your government to know,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>When asked how truckers can specifically influence policy in ways that other protests cannot, Durr put it bluntly: \u201cWhen the wheels stop, the world stops.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need truckers,\u201d Durr said. \u201cYou need truckers to get the products from the ships to the stores, from the stores to the factories, and from the factories to the stores. From the railyards, from the airport, it takes a truck. You\u2019ll never move product without a truck. They are needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen they are saying that they are not going to accept this, they will affect policy. I firmly believe it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the challenges these vaccine mandates imposed on truckers that might not be obvious to the average citizen, Durr noted that truckers already work a job in isolation. From a trucker\u2019s perspective, the mandates appear less like a public health measure and more like a tool for political control.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always about control,\u201d Durr said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been social distancing in trucking long before it became a popular phrase. We spent hours, days, weeks in a truck alone, and you just have yourself to deal with. You have the long hauls. I used to do the long hauls. I used to run to Quebec. It is hard enough to go through the border crossings. Now to add a medical procedure to go through the border. It\u2019s just ridiculous. (Photo by Dave Chan\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Durr noted that millions of migrants cross the southern border into the United States every day, and few, if any, are being asked to present a vaccine passport.<\/p>\n<p>When the Canadian \u201cFreedom Convoy\u201d launched late last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attempted to dismiss it as little more than a \u201cfringe minority\u201d composed of racists and kooks. Durr noted that Trudeau should check his own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/09\/20\/another-justin-trudeau-blackface-picture-leaks-before-canadian-election\/\">racist<\/a> past before maligning hardworking people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustin Trudeau, I don\u2019t know him personally, but he is a joke,\u201d said Durr. \u201cFor somebody who can go and call other individuals racist with the things he has done in the past just seems absurd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beyond Canada, Durr believed that the truckers in America should be inspired by their friends up north and even form their own \u201cFreedom Convoy\u201d in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I think their voices definitely need to be heard. I think the only way that people hear things is when you protest. They were concerned with police brutality when Black Lives Matter started protesting. It seems like they were concerned with all the other activists when they would protest. So why shouldn\u2019t truck drivers protest and let their voices be heard and state that this is a discrimination against them?<\/p>\n<p>Driving a truck across the border is no different than driving your car up and down the highway. They are isolated. They do not touch anybody. They don\u2019t see anybody. What is the reason? It\u2019s just politics.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In his home state of New Jersey, Durr said he would continue to fight for people\u2019s bodily autonomy in the face of government mandates. He is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.njleg.state.nj.us\/bill-search\/2022\/S1106\">sponsoring<\/a> a bill (S1106) that seeks to prohibit the \u201cmandatory use of medical devices by minors without informed parental consent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a major issue here in New Jersey with parents being concerned about their children being masked in schools,\u201d he said. \u201cI presented a bill this week (S1106) that would do away with the masking because it would put it in the parents\u2019 hands. It would do away with the school deciding and would allow the parents to decide.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Sen.
