There is no evidence that Pfizer\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine has any negative effects on reproduction.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CY7tY5crxDM\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=690f2726-edf5-4303-8a67-3a1055a5f296\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a> shows what appears to be a hyperlink to a Pfizer document along with text that reads, \u201cPage 132 of Pfizer vaccine\u2026 basically says no unprotected sex up to 28 days after 2nd dose due to reproductive safety risks.. this is for males and females\u2026 births (sic) defects due to genetic manipulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The provided URL, however, does not lead to a recent document discussing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/emergency-preparedness-and-response\/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19\/comirnaty-and-pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Food and Drug Administration-approved<\/a> Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.&nbsp;Rather, the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201109122801\/https:\/\/pfe-pfizercom-d8-prod.s3.amazonaws.com\/2020-11\/C4591001_Clinical_Protocol_Nov2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">146-page document<\/a> linked relates to the protocol for the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/11\/09\/health\/covid-vaccine-pfizer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2020<\/a> clinical trials of its COVID-19 vaccine. The document states it seeks to \u201cevaluate the safety, tolerability, immunogenicity, and efficacy of SARS-CoV-2 RNA vaccine candidates against COVID-19 in healthy individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Page 132, which is referenced in the post, discusses \u201cContraceptive Guidance.\u201d It states that throughout the trial male participants must refrain from donating sperm and be abstinent, or use protection when having intercourse with a female. It also stipulates that female participants must not be pregnant or breastfeeding and must use contraception if engaging in sex. Birth defects are not discussed in the document\u2019s contraceptive guidance section.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rsc.niaid.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Regulatory Support Committee<\/a> (RSC), which provides support for all clinical trials from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), notes that similar contraceptive rules are required for clinical trials that pose a known or unknown level of reproductive risk, according to its <a href=\"https:\/\/rsc.niaid.nih.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/trpguidancereproriskfinal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Therapeutics Research Guidance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClinical trials of investigational products\u2014those that have not yet been approved or authorized by the FDA\u2014always include a contraceptive requirement unless the same product has been used extensively for a different purpose with a proven safety record in pregnancy,\u201d said the NIAID in a statement sent via email to Check Your Fact.
