According to the Ottawa police service official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawapolice.ca\/en\/about-us.aspx?_mid_=16623#Organizational-Structure\">website<\/a>, Ottawa has just&nbsp;1,480 police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Sloly admitted that escalating the situation by bringing in the military was not a strategy without significant drawbacks.&nbsp;<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> reporter Paul Viera&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paulvieira\/status\/1488975048996265990?s=20&amp;t=bHI9l4YIPU_c4MpqXrP17w\">quoted<\/a> Sloly as saying, \u201cMixing them into a population in a highly volatile population \u2026 may mitigate some risk but escalate\u201d others.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Since the remarkable comments on deploying the military to confront pro-freedom truckers, a spokesman for the Canadian Defence Ministry said they would not be getting involved. The&nbsp;<em>Toronto Star<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/federal\/2022\/02\/02\/ottawa-police-may-seek-military-assistance-as-freedom-convoy-protesters-dig-in.html\">quoted<\/a> the spokesman\u2019s denial of the military being deployed to the streets of the capital, who said: \u201cThe Canadian Armed Forces are not involved in law enforcement in this situation, and there are no plans for such CAF involvement\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Quebec Abandons Policy of Taxing the Unvaccinated <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UVkaXrj361\">https:\/\/t.co\/UVkaXrj361<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1488881893458198533?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The statements by Ottawa\u2019s police chief come just days after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2022\/02\/01\/canada-police-all-options-on-the-table-to-end-peaceful-trucker-protests\/\">stated<\/a> that \u201call options are on the table\u201d to deal with the protesters, who are demanding an end to vaccine mandates for truckers for cross border travel between the United States and Canada as well as an end to all coronavirus restrictions across the country.<\/p>\n<p>In the days since the Freedom Convoy arrived in Ottawa, some Canadian politicians have begun to discuss ending coronavirus-linked limitations on basic rights, including Saskatchewan conservative premier Scott Moe, who stated that the province <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/02\/coronavirus-mandates-start-dropping-in-canada-as-freedom-convoy-rolls-on\/\">would end restrictions<\/a> such as the vaccine passport system by the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Francois Legault of the French-speaking province of Quebec also announced this week that his government would be<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/02\/quebec-abandons-policy-of-taxation-on-the-unvaccinated\/\"> scrapping the idea<\/a> of a tax on unvaccinated residents, claiming that the policy could lead to social tensions.<\/p>\n<p>Ottawa\u2019s local government has slammed the Freedom Convoy protestors, with Ottawa city councillor&nbsp;Mathieu Fleury posted a note on Twitter on Monday that he would be <a href=\"https:\/\/westernstandardonline.com\/2022\/01\/ottawa-councillor-wants-to-seize-truckers-gofundme-to-cover-costs\/\">launching court actions<\/a> to seize cash from the GoFundMe fundraiser for the protests, which has amassed over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/taking-back-our-freedom-convoy-2022\">ten million Canadian dollars<\/a> as of Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning I have asked the city manager and city solicitor to immediately launch court proceedings targeting the millions of dollars in funds frozen by GoFundMe so Ottawa taxpayers are not left holding the bag for these protests,\u201d&nbsp;Fleury said before <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MathieuFleury\">locking his account<\/a> and making his Tweets private, which they remain as of Wednesday. Following the comments, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/02\/02\/take-that-truckers-gofundme-freezes-10-million-canadian-freedom-convoy-fundraiser\/\">GoFundMe actually froze the Trucker fundraiser<\/a>, publishing a statement saying they were reviewing the account.<\/p>\n<p>They said:&nbsp;\u201cThis fundraiser is currently paused and under review to ensure it complies with our&nbsp;terms of service&nbsp;and applicable laws and regulations. Our team is working 24\/7 and doing all we can to protect both organizers and donors.
