Before working at the high school, she taught at a middle school in the district for two years.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>In February of 2019, she was charged \u201cwith having sexual contact with one of her male students after an investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff\u2019s Department,\u201d according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>She resigned from her teaching position after she was charged, per previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joplinglobe.com\/news\/updated-sarcoxie-high-school-teacher-charged-with-having-sex-with-student\/article_9f8c71ea-3084-11e9-b2ed-b31dcaa09976.html\">reporting<\/a> from the <em>Joplin Globe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>An affidavit said Turner admitted to having intercourse with the student, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The district\u2019s school board voted to petition the state to revoke her teaching license.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Prosecutor Nat Dally, who was working on the case, told the <em>Joplin Globe<\/em> the charge was dismissed because Turner and the student married and now have marital or spousal privileges. Now that prosecutors cannot compel the student to testify under spousal privileges, the case is much more difficult to prosecute, according to Dally.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that a primary concern of prosecutors was to revoke her teaching license, which she has forfeited.<\/p>\n<p>The student\u2019s age was not disclosed in the probable cause affidavit, but it is against Missouri law for school district employees, volunteers, or officials, to engage in sexual relations with students regardless of whether a student is of consensual age, the <em>Joplin Globe<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Turner was facing up to four years in prison, the <em>Springfield News-Leader<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news-leader.com\/story\/news\/education\/2019\/02\/21\/high-school-teacher-charged-accused-sex-with-student\/2932841002\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Missouri teacher previously accused of having sex with a male student has married him, and prosecutors have dropped their case, according to a report.
