NCAA President Mark Emmert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/01\/20\/ncaa-overhauls-policy-trans-athletes-after-upenn-swimmer-dominates-womens-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that the inclusion of transgender athletes would be governed by the international standards set by the sport in which the athlete competes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Thomas, a biological male who has taken record wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle races and has easily beaten all natural-born opponents after joining the university\u2019s women\u2019s swim team this season, has become the focus of criticism throughout the season. But Thomas has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/01\/24\/teammate-of-trans-swimmer-lia-thomas-says-women-are-now-third-class-citizens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">come in<\/a> for a raft of criticism.<\/p>\n<p>According to USA Swimming, with that change in place, Thomas may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-releases-new-transgender-athlete-policy-evidence-of-mitigation-required\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">no longer<\/a> be eligible for the championships.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cndimages.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/27133820\/lia-thomas-a-transgender-woman-dives-into-the-water-to-swim-in-the-picture-id1237915223\" alt=\"Lia Thomas, a transgender woman, dives into the water to swim in the 200 yard Medley Relay for the University of Pennsylvania at an Ivy League swim...\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Lia Thomas, a transgender woman, dives into the water to swim in the 200 yard Medley Relay for the University of Pennsylvania at an Ivy League swim meet against Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on January 22, 2022. (Photo by JOSEPH PREZIOSO\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Changing its rule from one year, USA Swimming ruled this week that transgender athletes must have recorded low testosterone levels for 36 months. Thomas only started \u201ctransitioning\u201d in May of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The organization added that its policy \u201crelies on science and medical evidence-based methods to provide a level-playing field for elite cisgender women, and to mitigate the advantages associated with male puberty and physiology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe elite athlete policy will be implemented by a decision-making panel comprised of three independent medical experts,\u201d the organization added.<\/p>\n<p>The criteria is to be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evidence that the prior physical development of the athlete as a male, as mitigated by any medical intervention, does not give the athlete a competitive advantage over the athlete\u2019s cisgender female competitors.<\/li>\n<li>Evidence that the concentration of testosterone in the athlete\u2019s serum has been less than 5 nmol\/L (as measured by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry) continuously for a period of at least thirty-six (36) months before the date of application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Medical experts at Mount Sinai Hospital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountsinai.org\/health-library\/tests\/testosterone#:~:text=Normal%20measurements%20for%20these%20tests,0.5%20to%202.4%20nmol%2FL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state<\/a> that testosterone levels are \u201cMale: 300 to 1,000 nanograms per deciliter (ng\/dL) or 10 to 35 nanomoles per liter (nmol\/L)\u201d and \u201cFemale: 15 to 70 ng\/dL or 0.5 to 2.4 nmol\/L.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Still, not everyone is on board with the new rules. (Photo by JOSEPH PREZIOSO\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One powerful voice speaking out against Lia Thomas was Rice Swimming coach Seth Huston, who has been head coach of Rich for 19 seasons, who said that it was \u201cblack and white\u201d that transgender \u201cwomen\u201d are a threat to real women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NCAA once again has proven that it is not leading. It is not really even following,\u201d Huston <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/01\/25\/rice-swimming-coach-slams-ncaa-for-allowing-trans-swimmer-lia-thomas-to-compete-as-a-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> last month. \u201cThe NCAA governance has become a bystander waiting for other organizations to make tough decisions. They hoped NIL would continue to be suppressed, and now they are scrambling to make it fit their construct.
