In the videos, the professor said it\u2019s \u201cnot obvious\u201d to him that pedophilia is \u201cwrong.\u201d Professor Stephen Kershnar claims in a video that adults having sex with children can be \u2018permissible,\u2019 saying: \u201cthe notion that it\u2019s wrong, even with a one-year-old, it\u2019s not quite obvious to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImage that an adult male wants to have sex with a 12-year-old girl, imagine that she\u2019s a willing participant. A very standard, very widely held view is there\u2019s something deeply wrong about this, and [that] it\u2019s wrong independent of it being criminalized,\u201d&nbsp;SUNY Fredonia professor Stephen Kershnar said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not obvious to me that it is in fact wrong,\u201d Kershnar added. \u201cI think this is a mistake. If we\u2019re interested in willing participation, which is the way I structured it, then yeah, there\u2019s a point below which people aren\u2019t willing participants in anything, because they don\u2019t have intentions or they don\u2019t have the sort of mental state that allows for willing participation.<\/p>\n<p>But no, I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a blanket wrong at any age.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A third clip shows&nbsp;Kershnar&nbsp;appearing to justify child-adult sexual relations by arguing that children are willing participants \u201call the time\u201d in activities that they do not \u201cfully understand,\u201d such as sports, and&nbsp;preparing for their Bar Mitzvah.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThey might think that children can\u2019t be willing things in general,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s an odd view in that they seem to will things all the time. They will participation in kickball. They will showing up and participating in Bar Mitzvah lessons \u2014 so, there\u2019s all sorts of things that they will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou might think, \u2018Well, maybe there\u2019s something distinct about sex, that they can\u2019t really understand it.\u2019 It\u2019s not clear to me that what they\u2019re not getting at is consent,\u201d&nbsp;Kershnar continued.<\/p>\n<p>The professor added that he believes people would say, \u201cOkay, they\u2019re willing participants, they\u2019re voluntary participants, they have some understanding of what\u2019s going on \u2014 but they haven\u2019t consented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To that,&nbsp;Kershnar responds by stating, \u201cPerhaps that\u2019s so, but that\u2019s a different claim from they\u2019re being unwilling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s&nbsp;lots of activities that children engage in that they don\u2019t understand all that well,\u201d he insisted. \u201cFor example, when you, when you first show up to participate in a Judo tournament, or you prepare for your Bar Mitzvah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have a rough idea, but it\u2019s not clear how much you fully understand it,\u201d&nbsp;Kershnar said.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Watch Below:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">He compares minors consenting to sex to them consenting to a kickball game or lessons <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AG4rAF1koT\">pic.twitter.com\/AG4rAF1koT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Libs of Tik Tok (@libsoftiktok) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1488693057583140864?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Tuesday night, SUNY Fredonia President Stephen Kolison addressed the video clips in a statement on Twitter, saying that the university&nbsp;\u201cis aware of a video posted online involving one of its professors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe views expressed by the professor are reprehensible and do not represent the values of SUNY Fredonia in any way, shape or form,\u201d Kolison added. \u201cThey are solely the professor\u2019s views.
