Colonel Alexander Vindman, the whistleblower who kicked off former President Donald Trump\u2019s first impeachment, sued Trump Wednesday for waging a \u201ctargeted campaign\u201d against him following his original complaint.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Vindman was the first to file a complaint regarding a call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which Trump appeared to withhold military support to Ukraine unless Zelensky agreed to investigate President Joe Biden\u2019s dealings there. Vindman remained a key witness throughout the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/01\/28\/exclusive-trump-impeachment-defense-stefanik-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">impeachment proceedings<\/a> and then <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/07\/08\/impeachment-witness-alexander-vindman-retire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resigned from his post<\/a> in July 2020. Vindman filed a lawsuit against Trump and his associates Wednesday. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/11\/04\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-alexander-vindman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Everything You Need To Know About Alexander Vindman, The Ukraine-Born Army Officer At The Center Of The Impeachment Probe)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe targeted campaign against Lt. Col. Vindman violated federal civil rights laws that have long protected federal officials from intimidation and retaliation,\u201d the lawsuit said. \u201cPresident Trump and his aides and other close associates, including Defendants, waged a targeted campaign against Lt. Col. Vindman for upholding his oath of office and telling the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis campaign of intimidation and retaliation has had severe and deeply personal ramifications for Lt. Col. Vindman. Trump himself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/2022\/02\/02\/alexander-vindman-sues-donald-trump-ukraine-call\/9314086002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted numerous times<\/a> about Vindman, saying he had mischaracterized the phone call with Zelensky and that there would be consequences for \u201cSPYING\u201d on the president, according to USA Today.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, Vindman\u2019s lawsuit alleges that Trump and his three associates violated the Klu Klux Klan Act of 1871, which prevents the intimidation or threatening of government officials who are carrying out their constitutional duty.<\/p>\n<p>Neither Trump nor any of the associates named in the lawsuit have made a public response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Lt.
