The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is not currently recommending that passengers on domestic air travel be tested, either, and the White House is following their lead for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-02-13\/biden-rules-out-covid-test-mandate-for-domestic-flights-for-now\">Bloomberg<\/a>, White House spokesman Kevin Munoz said in a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cPresident Biden has taken a number of steps to make travel safer since coming into office, including requiring masking on all air travel and public transit, pre-departure testing for inbound international travel and self-quarantine and testing after international travel\u2026At this time, CDC is not recommending required point of departure testing for domestic travel. As always, we will follow the science to bring this pandemic to an end.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The announcement comes days after officials in the Biden administration, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, seemed to be considering the mandate.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/delta-ceo-negative-covid-test-requirement-for-domestic-flights-horrible-idea\">The Daily Wire<\/a> on Wednesday,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cButtigieg didn\u2019t rule out the possibility during an interview with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/axios-hbo-pete-buttigieg-interview-514df62c-cce1-4deb-b9d2-f8094b6da5be.html\">Axios<\/a> earlier this week. \u2018There\u2019s an active conversation with the CDC right now,\u2019 Buttigieg said. \u2018What I can tell you is, it\u2019s going to be guided by data, by science, by medicine, and by the input of the people who are actually going to have to carry this out.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>CDC Director Rochelle Walensky commented on the reports in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-02-08\/cdc-director-says-covid-tests-for-u-s-flights-could-ease-spread?srnd=premium\">press briefing<\/a> on Monday, as well, saying that the requirement could be \u201canother mitigation measure.\u201d As the possibility was circulated in the news media, multiple airline executives spoke out against the logistics of such a condition being implemented.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/delta-ceo-negative-covid-test-requirement-for-domestic-flights-horrible-idea\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reports that Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian shared his disapproval in an interview on Tuesday:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cBastian told Poppy Harlow on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/business\/2021\/02\/09\/delta-ceo-ed-bastian-covid-tests.cnnbusiness\/video\/playlists\/business-aviation\/\">CNN<\/a>, \u2018I think [mandating a negative COVID test for every domestic flier] would be a horrible idea.\u2019 He added that airline travel numbers are \u2018starting to grow again, which we like to see\u2019 and that \u2018travel domestically \u2026 the air transportation system is the safest form of transportation.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bastian says that it would also be a \u2018logistical nightmare\u2019 that \u2018[would] not keep domestic fliers safer.\u2019 He noted that it would not only set back the transportation sector, but the hospitality industry, as well.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was also asked about the rumors on Friday, to which she responded, \u201cReports that there is an intention to put in place new requirements such as testing are not accurate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For passengers traveling internationally into the country, the U.S. has already specified testing requirements in an effort to slow the spread of the virus or the variants that have emerged in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>On \u201cday one\u201d of his administration, Biden signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/01\/21\/executive-order-promoting-covid-19-safety-in-domestic-and-international-travel\/\">\u201cExecutive Order on Promoting COVID-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel.\u201d<\/a> The order includes a mask requirement in airports, on commercial aircraft, trains, public maritime vessels, including ferries; intercity bus services, and all forms of public transportation as defined by United States code.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding international travel, Biden\u2019s order details that passengers traveling into the United States must provide evidence of a recent negative COVID-19 test before entering the country.
