(Photo by ANATOLII STEPANOV\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Erdo\u011fan\u2019s visit to the Ukrainian capital on Thursday is&nbsp;part of a planned annual meeting of the Turkey-Ukraine High-Level Strategic Council (HLSC), the Turkish newspaper <em>Cumhuriyet<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cumhuriyet.com.tr\/dunya\/erdogan-3-subatta-ukraynayi-ziyaret-edecek-1903930\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;on Monday. The Ukrainian embassy in Turkey <a href=\"https:\/\/turkey.mfa.gov.ua\/en\/embassy\/564-politichni-vidnosini-mizh-ukrajinoju-i-turechchinoju#:~:text=The%20High%2DLevel%20Strategic%20Council%20(HLSC)%20is%20the%20highest,strategic%20areas%20of%20bilateral%20relations.\">describes<\/a>&nbsp;the HLSC as \u201cthe highest advisory body between Ukraine and Turkey, which covers all strategic areas of bilateral relations.\u201d The HLSC will meet in Kyiv for the tenth time on February 3, or one day after the 30th anniversary of Turkey\u2019s establishment of diplomatic relations with Ukraine on February 2, 1992.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Erdo\u011fan and Zelensky are expected to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/business\/economy\/turkey-ukraine-due-to-ink-free-trade-deal-as-erdogan-heads-to-kyiv\">discuss<\/a>&nbsp;the continued cooperation of their defense industries at the February 2 HLSC summit, as well as \u201ca long-awaited free trade deal,\u201d Turkey\u2019s <em>Daily Sabah<\/em> newspaper reported on February 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe provide guarantees of financial stability for our country. We are preparing to send a strong economic signal \u2013 to sign within these two days the free trade agreement with Turkey,\u201d the newspaper quoted Zelensky as telling the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur groups are working so I\u2019m sure we will agree on everything,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Erdo\u011fan\u2019s visit to Kyiv this week is considered by some economic observers as \u201cpaving the way for talks on further cooperation and efforts for greater bilateral trade volume [between Turkey and Ukraine], which rose 67% year-over-year to around $7.42 billion (TL 99.28 billion) in 2021,\u201d according to the pro-Erdogan&nbsp;<em>Daily Sabah<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe figure surged from $4.68 billion in 2020 and could leap up to $10 billion within two to three years with a free trade agreement,\u201d Ru\u015fen \u00c7etin, the head of the Turkey-Ukraine Business Council \u2014 a subsidiary of the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) \u2014 told the newspaper on February 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one is in favor of the political tension between Russia and Ukraine.
