Ken Buck (R-Colo.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told the board that they see violent speech published from all parts of the political spectrum on social media platforms, including Facebook, pointing to calls for the murder of police officers from the far-left Antifa network and a top Iranian official promising violence against the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe debate about how to effectively deal with these and other individuals is necessary and important,\u201d the lawmakers wrote. \u201cHowever, we remain concerned that the deplatforming standards are not applied in a fair and neutral manner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans referred to a report compiled by a team led by former Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) on conservative concerns with Facebook, alleging <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.documentcloud.org\/documents\/20478814-covington-interim-report-1\">the report<\/a> \u201cfound numerous issues that resulted in a clear political bias against conservative viewpoints.\u201d They also noted that Facebook limited a story about President Joe Biden\u2019s son Hunter from being shared shortly before the 2020 election, claiming it contained disinformation, even though subsequent reporting confirmed many of the points presented. That incident showed Facebook \u201chad a clear preference for the Biden-Harris campaign,\u201d the lawmakers said.<\/p>\n<p>Leaked footage from a Facebook meeting held after Biden was sworn into office showed Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg praising some of the Democrat\u2019s early executive orders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstances where conservative viewpoints have been censored, blocked, or diminished harm the free exchange of ideas and irreparably damage conservative Americans\u2019 faith in the fundamental fairness of purportedly neutral actors like Facebook,\u201d the lawmakers wrote. \u201cTo effectively enforce content moderation rules in the public domain, Facebook must act in an impartial manner or risk delegitimizing its efforts to prevent violence and hate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3684330\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/20180410-MarkZuckerberg-SamiraBouaou-3689-1200x800-1.jpg\" alt=\"Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg testifies at a Senate Judiciary and Commerce Committees Joint Hearing in Washington on April 10, 2018. (Samira Bouaou\/The Epoch Times)<\/p>\n<p>Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/facebook-blocks-trump-until-at-least-jan-20_3647742.html\">suspended Trump<\/a> in early January, while he was still in office. The company at the time said the suspension would last indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>The company later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/facebook-refers-trump-account-suspension-to-its-oversight-board_3666147.html\">referred the decision<\/a> to the oversight board, an independent entity. Facebook has agreed to abide by the board\u2019s decisions.<\/p>\n<p>In its first set of rulings, the board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/oversight-board-overturns-4-facebook-decisions-upholds-1_3677140.html\">overturned<\/a> four Facebook actions and upheld one.<\/p>\n<p>The oversight board,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/facebook-announces-first-members-of-oversight-board_3341890.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which includes<\/a>\u00a0lawyers, current and former journalists, rights advocates, and academics, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/facebook-oversight-committee-taking-comments-on-trumps-suspension_3677373.html\">announced late January<\/a> that it would accept comments regarding Trump\u2019s suspension.<\/p>\n<p>In its announcement, the board said Facebook raised two issues in relation to the case: \u201cConsidering Facebook\u2019s values, specifically its commitment to \u2018Voice\u2019 and \u2018Safety,\u2019 did it correctly decide on January 7, 2021, to prohibit Donald J. Trump\u2019s access to posting content on Facebook and Instagram for an indefinite amount of time?
