Even has identity politics benefit of being first Asian (Indian) American. But alas doesn\u2019t fit into latest intersectionality hierarchy so we\u2019ll get lesser black woman. Thank heaven for small favors?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a follow-up tweet, Shapiro suggested that the president choosing a Supreme Court nominee based solely on race and gender would make it so that she \u201cwill always have an asterisk attached.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Biden said he\u2019s only consider[ing] black women for SCOTUS, his nominee will always have an asterisk attached. Fitting that the Court takes up affirmative action next term,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving backlash for his tweets, Shapiro deleted them, writing, \u201cI apologize. I meant no offense, but it was an inartful tweet. A person\u2019s dignity and worth simply do not, and should not, depend on race, gender, or any other immutable characteristic.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhile it\u2019s important that a wide variety of perspectives and backgrounds be represented in the judiciary, so blatantly using identity politics in choosing Supreme Court justices is discrediting to a vital institution,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A further statement: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nsIVRyfoiN\">pic.twitter.com\/nsIVRyfoiN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ilya Shapiro (@ishapiro) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ishapiro\/status\/1487261360446705664?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 29, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nonetheless, Shapiro was suspended.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI have placed Ilya Shapiro on administrative leave, pending an investigation into whether he violated our policies and expectations on professional conduct, non-discrimination, and anti-harassment, the results of which will inform our next steps,\u201d dean&nbsp;Treanor announced on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPending the outcome of the investigation, he will remain on leave and not be on campus,\u201d the dean added.<\/p>\n<p>Treanor went on to say that \u201cracial stereotypes about individual capabilities and qualifications remain a pernicious force in our society and our profession. I am keenly aware that our law school not exempt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to work with students, staff, alumni, and faculty to put in place strategies, policies, and practices to strengthen our community and our commitment to justice and equality for all,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro also released a statement on Monday, writing, \u201cI\u2019m optimistic that Georgetown\u2019s investigation will be fair, impartial and professional, though there\u2019s really not much to investigate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m confident that it will reach the only reasonable conclusion: my tweet didn\u2019t violate any university rule or policy, and indeed is protected by Georgetown policies on free expression,\u201d he added. \u201cAccordingly, I expect to be organization that&nbsp;focuses on protecting First Amendment rights in academia, also reacted to Shapiro\u2019s suspension, stating, \u201cGeorgetown says that \u2018untrammeled expression\u2019 is \u2018central to its being,\u2019 and that speech will not be suppressed even when many think it \u2018offensive, unwise, immoral, or ill conceived.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFreedom of expression protects both the right of a lecturer to offer views that others believe to be wrong or offensive, just as it protects the rights of Georgetown\u2019s students, faculty, and administrators to respond to those views with vociferous criticism,\u201d FIRE added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Amidst criticism of Ilya
