(Jabin Botsford\/The Washington Post via AP, Pool)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The defense team added that President Trump\u2019s words were not directly connected to those who had breached the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Veen went on to call the trial a political hit job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike every other politically motivated witch hunt the left has engaged in over the past four years, this impeachment is completely divorced from the facts, the evidence and the interests of the American people,\u201d Van der Veen said. \u201cThe Senate should promptly and decisively vote to reject it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Democrats\u2019 efforts, analysts have said they are unlikely to get a conviction due to the evenly divided Senate.<\/p>\n<h4>MORE NEWS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/biden-deputy-press-secy-tj-ducklo-on-unpaid-suspension\/\">Biden Deputy Press Secy.
