Everybody. Advocates like Darity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/06\/17\/879041052\/william-darity-jr-discusses-reparations-racial-equality-in-his-new-book\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">argue<\/a> that they would help eliminate the racial wealth gap, while detractors such as Thomas Sowell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/bs-xpm-2001-08-14-0108140126-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">argue<\/a> that \u201cthe longer this futile [reparations] campaign goes on, the more additional blacks will be victimized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The general public is likewise split on whether reparations would be a good idea \u2014 nearly two-thirds of Americans oppose the idea, according to a survey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umass.edu\/news\/article\/umass-amherstwcvb-poll-finds-nearly-half\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conducted<\/a> in April 2021 by the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This polling also shows an overwhelming majority of Republicans, 90%, oppose the idea while 64% of Democrats support it.<\/p>\n<p>The recent findings on Cook\u2019s position regarding reparations follow an op-ed from Washington Post columnist George Will on Jan. 28, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/01\/28\/two-political-activists-nominated-to-federal-reserve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a> that Cook \u201cstrokes progressivism\u2019s erogenous zones\u201d via her support for defunding the police and reparations. \u201cFed Chair Jerome H. Powell should be mortified that political activists like Raskin and Cook are being insinuated into the Fed\u2019s operations,\u201d wrote Will.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">1\/A terrible article and another bad faith attack on Lisa Cook in particular. Anyone who disagrees with Will\u2019s views on the scope of Federal Reserve policy is a political activist. It is unknown how key moderates such as Sens.
