I think one of the fundamental things we gotta do in addition to some of the changes we\u2019ll make \u2014 we won\u2019t get into them today \u2014 is that if we figure out why they\u2019re leaving in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with cabinet officials, met with governors from the National Governors Association.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The president argued that migrants only seek to sell their belongings and pay smugglers to take them to the United States out of desperation, not because it would be \u201cfun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s gangs we\u2019re working on, there\u2019s a whole lot of illegal movement, but there\u2019s also a way to begin to deal with the reason they\u2019re leaving in the first place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>White House staff escorted the press out of the meeting before the Q-and-A portion of the event began.<\/p>\n<p>Vice President Kamala Harris, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/24\/joe-biden-puts-kamala-harris-in-charge-of-migrant-crisis-i-can-think-of-nobody-who-is-better-qualified\/\">charged<\/a> in March with leading the administration\u2019s efforts on \u201croot causes\u201d of the border crisis, did not mention immigration in her opening remarks, which focused on \u201chistoric challenges\u201d faced by state and local leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, she focused on voting rights, calling for \u201cmeaningful access to the ballot\u201d for voters across the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Governors of border states continue criticizing Biden for failing to meaningfully address border security.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott delivered remarks at a border security briefing near the border with eleven state attorneys general from around the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans are angry that the president is deploying people, risking their lives and spending millions, if not billions, of American taxpayer dollars to secure the borders of other countries that probably will never have any effect in Texas or the United States of America,\u201d Abbott said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/texas-greg-abbott-biden-border-crisis-fentanyl-deaths\">interview<\/a> with Fox Business on Friday. \u201cBut the president will not deploy the resources needed to secure our own border here in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Joe Biden met with American governors at the White House on Monday, but only spoke briefly about migration and the crisis on the southern border.
