He starts going after [New Jersey Gov. Phil] Murphy, starts going after [California Gov. Gavin] Newsom, starts going after [Michigan Gov.] Gretchen Whitmer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The report adds:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>In addition to attacking Cuomo\u2019s fellow Democratic governors, DeRosa said, Trump \u201cdirects the Department of Justice to do an investigation into us.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>\u201cAnd basically, we froze,\u201d she told the lawmakers on the call.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>\u201cBecause then we were in a position where we weren\u2019t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice, or what we give to you guys, what we start saying, was going to be used against us while we weren\u2019t sure if there was going to be an investigation.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>DeRosa added: \u201cThat played a very large role into this.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Later, DeRosa reportedly apologized to her fellow Democrats for the \u201cpolitical position\u201d they put them in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSo we do apologize,\u201d she said, per the Post. \u201cI do understand the position that you were put in. I know that it is not fair. It was not our intention to put you in that political position with the Republicans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In August 2020, the United States Department of Justice \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/08\/26\/doj-probes-nursing-home-deaths-in-4-states-including-in-ny\/\"><span>opened<\/span><\/a> <span>a preliminary inquiry into the coronavirus nursing home policies of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan,\u201d questioning if those policies \u201cmay have resulted in the deaths of thousands of elderly nursing home residents.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Specifically, the Justice Department focused on the policies of Gov. Cuomo and his Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker, whose March 25 order stated that, \u201cNo resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to [a nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. [Nursing homes] are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On January 28, The Daily Wire<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nursing-home-deaths-in-new-york-were-massively-undercounted-new-york-ag-finds\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a> <span>that<\/span> <span>New York\u2019s death toll from coronavirus-related nursing home deaths \u201cmay be much higher than what was reported by the state,\u201d after a<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-nursinghomesreport.pdf\"><span>report<\/span><\/a> <span>from New York Attorney General Letitia James determined that \u201cCOVID-19 resident deaths associated with nursing homes in New York state appear to be undercounted by DOH by approximately 50 percent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After it was revealed that \u201cnearly 13,000 people died in New York nursing homes due to COVID-19,\u201d<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/covid-19-killed-14-of-new-yorks-nursing-home-population\"><span>on February 5<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cthe Empire Center, a non-partisan think tank, reported that number accounts for 14% of New York\u2019s \u2018pre-pandemic nursing home population.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
