It\u2019s critically important the message \u2014 and I realize I\u2019m speaking to a vast majority \u2014 at least, I hope I am \u2014 of the folks out here at NIH. The new strains emerging create immense challenges, and masking is still the easiest thing to do to save lives. But we need everyone to mask up. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, by the way, I know it\u2019s a pain in the neck, but it\u2019s a patriotic responsibility. We\u2019re in the middle of a war with this virus,\u201d Biden continued. \u201cIt\u2019s a patriotic responsibility \u2014 not only if you care about your family, if you care about your fellow Americans. Do you realize more people have died in the last 12 months \u2014 in the last 12 months than died in all four years in World War Two? All four years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I asked what the full extent of my authority as president of the United States could be. I signed an executive order that required masking on all federal property, on modes of travel like planes, trains, and buses across interstate commerce,\u201d he concluded on the subject. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve been calling on governors \u2014 Republican and Democrat \u2014 and mayors \u2014 Republican and Democrat \u2014 and local officials to institute mask mandates within their jurisdictions.&nbsp; We need everyone to do their part for themselves, their loved ones, and yes, for their country. Mask up, America.
