The emphasis on \u201cfinancial stability\u201d over any fears of another Russian invasion indicate, however, that Zelensky\u2019s priorities for his country at the moment do differ from the White House\u2019s interpretation of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President of Ukraine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/news\/prezident-ukrayini-proviv-drugu-z-pochatku-roku-telefonnu-ro-72581\">stressed<\/a> the importance of supporting the economic and financial stability of our country in the current situation,\u201d the Kyiv readout read. \u201cThe leaders discussed concrete steps by the United States to increase financial support for Ukraine, both bilaterally and by involving international financial institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The readout repeatedly stated that Zelensky thanked Biden and \u201cexpressed gratitude to the United States and personally to Joseph Biden\u201d for sending military and humanitarian aid to the country. It also celebrated the alleged \u201cgood dynamics\u201d between the United States and Ukraine under the two leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/01\/27\/readout-of-president-bidens-call-with-president-zelenskyy-of-ukraine-2\/\">readout<\/a> emphasized America\u2019s alleged resolve to \u201crespond decisively if Russia further invades Ukraine\u201d over helping Ukraine remain financially stable and, thus, less vulnerable to foreign threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden noted the United States has provided Ukraine with over half a billion dollars in development and humanitarian assistance in the last year, and is exploring additional macroeconomic support to help Ukraine\u2019s economy amidst pressure resulting from Russia\u2019s military build-up,\u201d the White House asserted.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>America\u2019s support for longtime ally Ukraine against a potential Russian invasion came into question last week, when Biden told reporters that he saw no need to aid Ukraine in the event of a \u201cminor incursion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRussia will be held accountable if it invades. And it depends on what it does. It\u2019s one thing if it\u2019s a minor incursion and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do, et cetera,\u201d Biden&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/01\/19\/remarks-by-president-biden-in-press-conference-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a>, during the same event in which he predicted that Putin would formally invade eastern Ukraine in the near future.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Russian government invaded Ukraine in 2014 and colonized the Crimea region; Russia continues to illegally occupy the area today. Extensive evidence also shows a significant Russian presence in Donbas, where pro-Russia \u201cseparatists\u201d have waged a violent war against Kyiv for eight years. Russia\u2019s invasions that year followed months of protests in Kyiv that resulted in the ouster of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych. His successor, Petro Poroshenko, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/comedian-zelensky-wins-landslide-victory-in-ukraine-presidential-vote-exit-polls\/\">lost<\/a> the presidency to Zelensky, a comic actor with no prior political experience, in 2019 after the Ukrainian public lost patience with his mounting corruption scandals.<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky\u2019s initial response to Biden\u2019s panicked predictions of an imminent Russian invasion was a nationally televised speech in which he asked the public, \u201cDidn\u2019t the invasion start in 2014?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese risks have existed for more than a year, and they haven\u2019t increased,\u201d Zelensky&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/20\/ukraines-zelensky-tries-to-clean-up-biden-mess-russian-invasion-risks-havent-increased\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a>&nbsp;last week. \u201cWhat has increased is the hype around them. \u2026 Take a deep breath. Calm down.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Zelensky\u2019s Defense Minister&nbsp;Oleksii Reznikov issued a nearly identical message in remarks to the Ukrainian parliament, the&nbsp;Verkhovna Rada, on Friday, stating that intelligence on the ground near the Russian border does not indicate that Moscow will try to invade the country in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt present, there are no events or actions of military nature, which would differ significantly from what happened last spring,\u201d Reznikov <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukrinform.net\/rubric-defense\/3393493-reznikov-no-events-or-actions-of-military-nature-observed-near-border.html\">said<\/a>, according to Ukrainian state media outlet Ukrinform. \u201cThe only difference in military terms that we are following is the situation in Belarus. What is radically different is the intensity of hybrid measures, primarily information ones, as well as the impact of these measures on the macroeconomic situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reznikov attributed the discrepancy between the White House messaging and the tone of the Ukrainian government to \u201cthe fact that Ukraine uses data on the area of \u200b\u200bRussian military concentration of up to 200 km. These data more accurately reflect the trends,\u201d Ukrinform paraphrased Reznikov as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian officials have also consistently emphasized that a collapse in the currency or similar economic devastation triggered by Russia panic would be a necessary precursor to any successful invasion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, according to all intelligence reports that coincide with those of the United States, Britain, and other partners, internal destabilization is No. 1 issue,\u201d&nbsp;National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukrinform.net\/rubric-polytics\/3391095-russia-betting-on-ukraines-destabilization-nsdc-secretary-believes.html\">said<\/a> on Tuesday. \u201cWithout internal destabilization, the Russians have nothing to do here.
