It is hard being patient when plans were canceled or we would go days without seeing each other or when you had to write a report that would take forever because you had to voucher so many things,\u201d Luzuriaga said, going on to say that what followed that argument was the phone call she hoped no one else ever had to take.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy heart dropped,\u201d she said, after learning that two <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/after-two-nypd-officers-shot-nyc-mayor-adams-demands-federal-government-help-stop-the-flow-of-guns\/\">police officers<\/a> had been shot in Harlem. \u201cI immediately texted you and asked you, \u2018Are you okay? Please tell me you\u2019re okay. I know that you are mad right now but just text me you are okay. At least tell me you are busy.\u2019 I get no response. We used to share locations on \u2018Find My iPhone\u2019 and when I checked yours I see you are at Harlem Hospital. I thought maybe you were sitting on a perp. But still, nothing. I called and then called again and then called one more time. And this time I felt something wasn\u2019t right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then came the phone call, she said, and she had to go to the hospital. \u201cDozens of people were surrounding me and yet, I felt alone. I couldn\u2019t believe you left me. Seeing you in that hospital bed wrapped up in sheets &amp; not hearing you when I was talking to you broke me,\u201d she continued. \u201cI was lost. I\u2019m still lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Officer Rivera\u2019s widow, Dominique Luzuriaga: \u201cDozens of people were surrounding me &amp; yet, I felt alone. And although you won\u2019t be here anymore, I want you to live through me. The system continues to fail us. We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service [NYPD]. I know you were tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new DA.
