China\u2019s previous vaccines, such as Sinovac, use the older inactivated-virus technique of injecting the patient with dead or neutralized virus cells to induce the desired antibody response.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>China claimed extremely high rates of effectiveness for its older products, but they proved <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/06\/07\/chinas-sinovac-urges-third-dose-of-its-low-quality-vaccine\/\"><span>highly unreliable<\/span><\/a><span> when used anywhere the Chinese Communist Party could not control the flow of information about their effectiveness. Some third-party countries eventually began <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/sinovac-vaccinated-thai-health-workers-to-receive-booster\/\"><span>recommending<\/span><\/a><span> Western products for \u201cbooster shots\u201d after coronavirus infections <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2021\/05\/27\/trial-results-chinas-best-vaccine-still-far-below-pfizer-moderna-success-rates\/\"><span>surged<\/span><\/a><span> among people who were inoculated with Chinese vaccines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last summer, Chinese scientists <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2021\/07\/09\/beijing-chinese-vaccines-should-be-better-than-mrna-against-variants\/\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a><span> their inactivated-virus vaccines should be <\/span><span>more <\/span><span>effective than mRNA technology. In December 2021, they <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/16\/chinas-sinovac-claims-vaccine-offering-no-protection-with-two-doses-magically-94-effective-against-omicron-after-booster\/\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a><span> a third injection of their old vaccines was among the most effective defenses in the world against the Omicron variant. But on Wednesday, the <\/span><i><span>Global Times <\/span><\/i><span>quoted Chinese scientists who said mastering mRNA technology is \u201cvery important for China, not only to control the COVID pandemic but as treatment in cancer and rare diseases.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the <\/span><i><span>Global Times, <\/span><\/i><span>the <\/span><i><span>Lancet <\/span><\/i><span>study demonstrated ARCoVAX has \u201cgood safety levels,\u201d with \u201cno serious adverse reactions\u201d reported \u2013 aside from a bit of \u201cpain, itch and redness in the injection site, fever, headache, fatigue or malaise, muscle and joint pain, diarrhea, and chills,\u201d of mild to moderate severity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Later in the article, the authors admitted those fevers might be a problem:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>According to The Lancet\u2019s report, adverse events were graded according to the guidelines for vaccine clinical trials issued by the National Medical Products Administration. In China, about 50 percent of participants had grade 3 fever after the first inoculation, and 88 percent of participants in the 25 micrograms group did so after the second shot. When adverse events were graded according to the guidelines for vaccine clinical trials issued by the US FDA, 30 percent of participants had grade 3 fever in the 15 micrograms group.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In comparison, the incidence of grade 3 fever in the same 30 micrograms group in adults aged 18 to 55 years was zero in the US, 8 percent in Germany and 17 percent in China.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>CNN<\/span><span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/13\/china\/china-western-mrna-vaccine-mic-intl-hnk\/index.html\">reported<\/a> in December that China seemed on the verge of authorizing Western mRNA vaccines during last summer\u2019s Delta variant outbreak, but mysteriously delayed regulatory approval, remaining tight-lipped even when another outbreak erupted on the eve of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Chinese officials have also refused to discuss how effective any of their older vaccine products are against the Omicron variant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The implication is that China is reluctant to admit its vaccines are inferior, even at the risk of coronavirus cases spreading unnecessarily through its population, and looks to be gambling on domestic mRNA products like ARCoVAX coming to the market soon. Production facilities for ARCoVAX are reportedly ready to begin pumping out 200 million doses a year, as soon as approval is given, while established companies like the state-owned Sinopharm are working on mRNA products as well.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China\u2019s state-run Global Times on Wednesday cited early clinical trials to claim the mRNA coronavirus vaccine developed by Chinese military scientists and biotechnology firms is up to 95-percent effective.
