Bush, who, Schweizer recalls in the book, was so beloved while serving as America\u2019s top diplomat in China that then-President Deng Xiaoping \u201cthrew him a going-away party\u201d in 1975, calling the Bushes \u201cold friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19658730\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19658730\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AP8510130472.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1275\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">U.S. Vice-President George H. Zemin was mayor of Shanghai when the Tiananmen Square massacre occurred in 1989, but took over as chairman of the Chinese Communist Party by the end of June, the month in which the massacre occurred. While not in charge when it actually happened, he became the face of the massacre for enthusiastically defending it in public and heavily censoring any mention of it within China.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe do not believe that there was any tragedy in Tiananmen Square,\u201d Jiang <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1989\/09\/27\/world\/tiananmen-killings-not-a-tragedy-chinese-party-chief-says.html\">told<\/a> reporters in September 1989. \u201cWhat actually happened was a counterrevolutionary rebellion aimed at opposing the leadership of the Communist Party and overthrowing the socialist system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese regime has actively repressed attempts to compile death and injury totals in the Tiananmen Massacre, making the true total unknown. In 1989, as the elder President Bush settled into the presidency, his brother Prescott \u201cclosed a deal to build a golf club in Shanghai for foreign business executives\u201d shortly before an official visit from his brother, Schweizer wrote. \u201cIt was one of the few golf courses in China that received government approvals required for construction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mayor of Shanghai during negotiations for the golf course, Jiang Zemin, became a Bush family friend who later became the premier of China,\u201d Schweizer noted. Prescott had been forging business ties in the country since his brother became vice president under Ronald Reagan. At the time, the Cold War had taken up almost the entirety of America\u2019s foreign policy conversation, with China a distant, at best, concern.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>In the aftermath of the Tiananmen Square massacre, Schweizer notes that Prescott actively opposed sanctions on China over human rights concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are big opportunities in China, and Americans can\u2019t afford to be shut out,\u201d Prescott Bush asserted. His brother, the president, imposed no meaningful policies to punish Jiang\u2019s China for the slaughter.<\/p>\n<p>A generation later, Jiang celebrated the election of his friend\u2019s son, George W. Bush, to the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe father of President [George W.] Bush, Bush Sr., came over to China many, many times and had many meetings with me in the seat you are now occupying,\u201d Schweizer quotes Jiang as stating. \u201cWe believe Bush Sr. will definitely push Bush Jr. to bring U.S.-China relations to a new level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>China <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wto.org\/english\/thewto_e\/countries_e\/china_e.htm\">joined<\/a> the World Trade Organization in December 2001, while Americans were largely distracted by George W. Bush traveled to Beijing to be an enthusiastic spectator at that year\u2019s Summer Olympics, ignoring similar calls at the time to those of today to boycott the event out of respect for the victims of communism. The Chinese state-run&nbsp;<i>Global Times<\/i>&nbsp;published an article this week resurfacing an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/01\/26\/china-uses-george-w-bush-promote-genocide-olympics\/\">interview<\/a>&nbsp;Bush did at the time praising China effusively for its handling of the 2008 Summer Olympics, when here asserted he was \u201cshowing the Chinese people his respect by attending the Olympics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the George W. Bush presidency, a new generation of Bushes began securing deals with Chinese officials,\u201d Schweizer writes in his book. \u201cNeil Bush, brother of the president, signed a contract with a Chinese company called Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing. Bush had no background in computing, but the firm paid him $400,000 a year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe company\u2019s cofounder,\u201d he observed, \u201cjust happened to be Chinese premier Jiang Zemin\u2019s son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neil Bush is now a propagandist for Chinese state media, publicly <a href=\"http:\/\/en.people.cn\/n3\/2019\/1205\/c90000-9638375.html\">opposing<\/a> American support for the anti-communist protests in Hong Kong in 2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19658858\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19658858\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AP9306282939362024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"749\" height=\"515\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Neil Bush is seen during an interview on the Chinese state-owned media outlet People\u2019s Daily Online in 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Schweizer notes that in addition to being \u201ca frequent fixture on Chinese state media,\u201d Neil Bush also regularly \u201cmakes appearances before government-linked think tanks where he has made dubious and troubling comments about the nature of the Beijing regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For example, in a speech in 2019 for the CCP-linked front organization China-U.S. Exchange Foundation (CUSEF), Neil Bush slammed the \u201cAmerica First\u201d policies of the Trump administration. \u201cChina is not an economic enemy or existential national security threat to the United States,\u201d he declared. \u201cThe demonization of China is being fueled by a rising nationalism in the U.S. that is manifested in anti-immigrant, anti-Chinese, pro-America-first rhetoric.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also in 2019, CUSEF became a major donor to the Bush China Foundation, pledging over a million dollars per year for a five-year period, Schweizer reports. He notes that this pledge \u201cwould constitute a large portion of the nonprofit\u2019s income.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Red-Handed-American-Elites-Helping-China\/dp\/0063061147\/?tag=breitbart035-20\"><em>Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;was published by HarperCollins.
