It\u2019s designed to link up other assets \u2014 what the Air Force calls \u2018linking sensors to shooters\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they can get into the 35\u2019s networking capabilities, it effectively undermines the whole carrier philosophy,\u201d Austen added.<\/p>\n<p>Similar intelligence victories have been achieved by military adversaries in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 1974, at the height of the Cold War, the CIA secretly pulled a Russian submarine from the sea floor off the coast of Hawaii using a giant mechanical claw,\u201d the BBC noted. \u201cTwo years earlier, the Chinese military secretly salvaged the UK submarine HMS Poseidon which sank off China\u2019s east coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe F-35C is the first and world\u2019s only long-range stealth strike fighter designed and built explicitly for Navy carrier operations,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lockheedmartin.com\/f35\/news-and-features\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-f-35c.html\">Lockheed Martin<\/a> explained. \u201cIts configuration, embedded sensors, internal fuel and weapons capacity, aligned edges, and state of the art manufacturing processes all contribute to the F-35\u2019s unique Very Low Observable stealth performance. This enables pilots to evade enemy detection and operate in anti-access and contested environments, improving lethality and survivability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other features include \u201cthe most advanced and comprehensive sensor suite of any fighter jet in history,\u201d as well as boasting the \u201clargest wingspan and most robust landing gear of all F-35 variants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The supersonic jet carries both internal and external weapons, and \u201ccan operate as an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance asset and battle manager, sharing information to all networked ground, sea and air assets in the battlespace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/01\/24\/politics\/f-35-pilot-eject-south-china-sea\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>, the pilot of the downed F-35C \u201cwas conducting routine flight operations when the crash happened. They safely ejected and were recovered by a military helicopter, Pacific Fleet said. The pilot is in stable condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSix others were injured on the deck of the carrier. Three required evacuation to a medical facility in Manila, Philippines, where they are in stable condition, according to Pacific Fleet.
